Bakersfield Man Accused of Eating Cats
NBC Bay Area ^ | Friday, Feb 17, 2012 | Chris Roberts

Posted on 02/17/2012 9:14:53 PM PST by nickcarraway

Cats are for petting, not for plating.

Cats are fine pets. But a fine meal? No, sir. No.

The alleged eating practices of a Bakersfield man has run him afoul of the law, after he was found with the headless carcass of a feline friend in his kitchen sink, according to reports.

Jason Wilmert, 35, lives in the Bakersfield suburb of Oildale, where neighbors told police of hearing the sound of screaming cats coming from Wilmert's backyard. One neighbor reported seeing Wilmert decapitate a cat in his yard, police said.

Yikes.

Deputies arrived on-scene and saw a cat's head in Wilmet's backyard. Once they went inside, they found a carcass prepared "as if for cooking," according to reports.

Possessing a pet for food is illegal in California, as well as plain twisted. Wilmert was arrested on misdemeanor animal cruelty charges and possession of a pet for food.

Once upon a time, news was news, and editorial was editorial. Now NBC has both in one badly formed sentence.

Neither. Probably fried.

Or stewed.

Cat makes a good meal

My neighbor raises chickens in her backyard.

Are they considered pets? If so, what happens if she decides to eat one of them? Can the police arrest her for “animal cruelty” or “pet for food”?

Also, what about the eggs they lay? Are they considered babies, pets, or breakfast?

Don’t get me wrong, I have a cat, too. Great friend and companion, and I would never consider eating him. But just because I consider an animal a pet, does that mean that all domesticated animals are pets and cannot be eaten? If so, why? (Many Asian people consider dogs and cats to be food. And don’t fool yourself into believing that their isn’t more than a handful of asian restaurants throughout the US that are not using dogs & cats rather than chicken & pork on their menu.)

Not endorsing the idea. Just asking a question.

Okay, who has the photo of the sign outside the Chinese restaurant:

"WE NOT KNOW WHERE IS YOUR CAT. PLEASE NOT ASK AGAIN."

... or something along those lines...

It's a shame that Jeffery Dahmer isn't around to be his cellmate.

I figured the cats in my neighborhood were ending up on a Thai Taco Truck and drenched in ponsu sauce.

Heard it is on the menu as Kit on a spit.

I've raised chickens that I considered semi-pets. When they got old I killed 'em and ate 'em.

I raised two pigs that lived a long time (6+ years), definitely pets. When they got old, I killed 'em and tried to eat 'em. Too damn tough.

I have had cats all my adult life, probably 25 cats all told so far. Have two now, going on 15 years old each. In the past I've had to kill some, when they got real sick.

Never tried eating them though. Not sure I would, since they'd have been sick and whatnot, not to mention I don't think I could do it even if they were well.

The funds raised in these FReepathons go to pay our current quarter expenses. But we're also going to try to replace some of our older servers and failing equipment this year so we're going to add a little extra to our FReepathon goals. John is estimating ten to fifteen thousand to do this and I'd like to get it all in place and working before the election cycle is fully heated up, so we'll try to bring in a little extra now, if we can, and the rest next quarter.

Cat’s in the Kettle, by Weird Al Yankovich
sung to “Cat’s in the Cradle”

Did you ever think when you eat chinese,
it’s not fish or chicken but a fat siamese,
oh the food tastes great, so you don’t complain
But that’s not chicken in your chicken chow mein

and I looked away when I saw what I thought I saw
Garfield’s on my fork, he’s PURRING ON MY FORK

and the cat’s in the kettle at the “Peking Moon”
a little place I go get lunch at noon...

Hey NBC, the guy's from Oildale. The good people of Bakersfield don't deserve to be associated with the cat-eating activities of some Oakie from Oildale.
