Santorum aide: 'Why is Mormonism off-limits?' (Politico)
Politico ^ | 2/22/12 | EMILY SCHULTHEIS

Posted on 02/23/2012 3:26:15 PM PST by Allon

Via Byron York, Rick Santorum's advisers are frustrated by the focus on Santorum's "Satan" and "good and evil" comments without similar attention to Mitt Romney's faith:

[S]pecifically religious questioning of Romney is as rare as specific Romney statements about Mormon beliefs. Given the current grilling of Santorum, that is a source of growing frustration to Santorum's advisers. "Why is Mormonism off limits?" asks one. "I'm not saying it's a seminal issue in the campaign, but we're having to spend days answering questions about Rick's faith, which he has been open about. Romney will turn on a dime when you talk about religion. We're getting asked about specific tenets of Rick's faith, and when Romney says, 'I want to focus on the economy,' they say, OK, we'll focus on the economy."

With the headlines Santorum's faith has made, and the fact that today is Ash Wednesday, issues of faith and religion are sure to come up at tonight's debate — but whether that includes focus, by candidates or moderators, on Romney's Mormonism is an open question.

Hasn't Mormonism been the subject of political speech for the last 4 years? Someone on Santorum's staff needs to rethink this direction, as it looks a bit desperate.

I'd rather know why Black Liberation Theology is off limits.

Because every religion is sacred to the secular. Except Catholicism.

Besides, Mormons have same PR people as Muslims, apparently.

If this retard is typical of the people President Santorum will surround himself with, I'll take a pass on him.

Can these idiots not see that they're playing right into Politico's and the rest of the DemocRAT Media's hands?

Because Romney knows how crazy Mormonism really sounds to outsiders. He is banking on fooling people that Mormonism is ‘just another Christian religion’ which it isn’t. If they start digging, Mitt will look even crazier than he already does.

We’ll fix that...

Mitt Romney, Dec, 2007, speaking at the George Bush Presidential Library: “I believe in my Mormon faith and I endeavor to live by it. My faith is the faith of my fathers – I will be true to them and to my beliefs.”

Here is why Romney’s faith isn’t being talked about.

The Democrats are waiting for him to seal the nomination then they will blast it up until election day. They are way too quiet which means they are up to something.

In a way I think that Obama going after the Church brings religion into the picture which opens the door to attacks on Romney.

Mormonism has been off limits, almost nobody even knows that Mitt Romney is a Bishop, a son of a Bishop, that both he and his father were Mormon Cardinals (Stake Presidents).

Nobody knows that Romney is not a Christian and is heading to become a God, or wears magic underwear 24 hours a day, Mormonism has not been questioned or discussed much at all.

Nobody has mentioned that the Senate is already headed by a Mormon, and that Mitt would mean the Presidency as well, and whether that has anything to do with the “White Horse Prophecy”.

Yelp if GOPEe doesn’t bring it up now, you can bet Axelrod will go after it big time in the fall.

Any one that question why the issue send them to read the first two chapaters of Tricia Erickson’s book on Amazon. It’s free. CAN MITT ROMNEY SERVE TWO MASTERS?

No Christian is hated by the media and the left, and Hollywood, like the Evangelical Protestant.

Exactly. Obama WILL tell the country what mormons believe and then it’s too late to get a new candidate. People know what Christians, Catholics, Muslims believe, why not momons? Romney get a pass while Rick has to take heat for something that was purposly twisted to hurt him.

There beliefs are so out there that mormons are calling themselves Christians. I’ve had debates with them explaining to be of the same faith you must have the same god. They want to attach themselves to Christians, but I know I don’t believe I am a god or will get a planet of my own if I am good. They insult Jesus by calling him satans brother & Mary by saying she had sex with Jesus and satans father. You can go on and on. How do you think Catholics and Christians are going to feel when they hear he is slandering Jesus and Mary? People have a right to know. This is why I will NEVER vote for romney. I will go third party.

They want to attach themselves to Christians ...

And they don't display the cross. As Fauna said in Sweet Thursday, "There's people will buy anything."

All I know is that it's a twisted "Christian" who uses his political office to foist the homosexual agenda on kids and to make abortion cheap and on-demand, subsidized by taxpayers. Romney has done those things.

I'm with you. Romney, Mormon or not, is as off the table as Obama.

He may want to control his aides better. This comes off as whining, saying why are you going after me, what about the other guy. I dont know if that is a political winner.
