The world of medicine is scared and honestly so am I.
A whole raft of treatments that used to work, for example, anti-biotics, are proving themselves less and less able to deal with bugs that have become resistant and new conditions that appear from time to time.
And it's not just in the world of physical ailments that treatments have started to fail. In the world of psychology too, treatments and therapies that were once believed to offer solutions have not lived up to expectations.
Now parents face a new and potentially graver problem as they attempt to bring up their kids. Like so many such conditions like ADD and ADHD, it is known by its acronym, B.O.Y.

B.O.Y. problems often accompany L.A.Z.Y. D.A.D. problems.
Dad might in fact be doing a pretty fair job at keeping the family in food and clothes, but they can be starving and naked in attention. The dad who determines that he does not have time from that all important ball game on radio or TV to play with his son will never, ever get that time back.
There is a surgical procedure being used today that will cure that.

Yep and in China (I think it is China) if you steal you get your hand cut off and there is virtually no theft there.
It may be harsh but it works.
If someone misbehaved, the nuns used to stand us in front of the room holding two books in the air for an entire period. If you let one arm drop, it was another hour. Brutal, yes. Effective, yes.
Natural boyishness is not a crime. It’s the way God made them.
If we keep a puppy shut up in a cage, are we surprised when he whines and barks and pees and poops all over? Do we respond by keeping him in there longer as a punishment? (If we want to “break” him, you bet we do.)
God made both the boy and the puppy, and we need to understand that natural design rather than force them into our artificial model.
But instead our schools are designed to kill the natural energy, creativity, and curiosity God put in boys - and girls. It’s the only way to shape them into useful human resources.
Dad left the home. Mom left the home. They let daycare and compulsory schooling take the kids out of the home.
It’s an entirely unnatural way to live.
I’m not a coach or anything, but...
In my limited experience working with little boys in LEGO team and doing a skit for the school talent show, I have learned that activity really helps. Teach them something. Send them on a run to the far fence and back. Teach them another thing. Send them out again. (I later learned from the boys that the thing they loved most about talent show practice was the running.)
It may look like nothing is sinking in, whatsoever. Then, when the pressure is on, they focus and make you PROUD. So the other thing boys need is a Reason to do something. A competition, a performance, a big reward. If there’s no Reason, they feel like they may as well just cut up and horse around.
Also, they have an innate sense of fairness and justice. If you think you want to be merciful and cut somebody some slack, it will backfire because the boys will think you are playing favorites or being unfair. They want bright lines and consistency.
I have a friend who uses the quotation “the child is the father of the man.” He’s so right. If we parent kids the way they really should be parented, we become more mature adults in the process.

Anyways, the Prussian school system is designed to destroy “thinking outside the box” by using peer pressure and humiliation to form “group think”—the one way to think about any issue-—the Marxist, collective, no God way.
It teaches dependence on everything—even going to the bathroom needs permission-—unlike the one room school house and independence and freedom to read and work at your own pace and level—smarter kids worked with older kids—they learned to appreciate all ages.
You never were forced to attend school—just went if you wanted to learn—so if the kids didn’t like the teacher—if the teacher never taught them anything—they never even attended school.
Our most free thinkers and most intellectual ones-—people who don’t conform to public pressure were most likely home-schooled or taught by a tudor like Lincoln and our Founding Fathers. People who never ever were afraid to express their opinions—because they were not conditioned for 12 years to feel humiliated for thinking differently from peers and corrected by a “teacher” to “guide” them to the “correct” relativistic worldview.
All children in public schools prior to Dewey were taught Objective Truth and learned passages from the Bible and strict discipline was always important to the classroom. Not since the Marxists took charge though—now every thing is set up for brainwashing into moral relativism—to destroy the principles of our Constitution-—Natural Rights from God. Kill God—they kill all morality and society collapses. Nietzsche, and even Freud knew that.

This is why homeschooling in larger families works well too. Even homeshooling that is second rate has no trouble keeping up with government schools in academics.

Few people liked school. But most people insist on subjecting their kids to it, largely because they can’t imagine anything else.
THAT is the power of schooling. It works EXACTLY as intended.
It was probably me-—Gatto is a little all over the place :)—but I appreciated all
the time and effort—research and his analysis.
At first, I didn’t completely agree with him but after studying philosophy and psychology, BK Eakman, I now think he is brilliant.
Thank you for the info. I “waded” through his “expansive” underground history—I forced my kids to buy it for me for my birthday 5 years ago. Although it is quite long, I was fascinated by what he had to say. Very enlightened man. I had a “paradigm shift” in my understanding of “education” and I had worked in public schools for a number of years.
I was reading the Bonhoeffer book by Metaxas and when talking of his childhood in Germany, his mother states that she never liked the Prussian school system and never allowed her many kids to go to school until 7 or 8 years of age——so they wouldn’t “break” them.
I have run into many, many sources that have validated the things stated by Gatto and some people, like Mrs. Bonhoeffer understood even back in the early 1900’s —how evil the Prussian type of schools were for destroying individualism and “thinking outside the box”. Creating little socially-molded robots who all think the same exact way—into relativism and godlessness.
Societies perfect for a future Hitler where “Christians” welcomed the removal of crosses, a swastika in its place-—with few exceptions like Bonhoeffer who had parents who dearly protected their minds from the government indoctrination machine.
My son had a teacher like that in k-5. Now that he's a high school junior he is a long distance runner and he's looking at paying his way through college with running scholarships! LOL
