Report: Warren Sapp files for bankruptcy, has lost Super Bowl ring

Former Bucs defensive lineman Warren Sapp has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in Florida on claims he has racked up millions in debt, TMZ.com reported Friday.

One of the most surprising claims in Sapp's filing is that lost his 2002 Super Bowl ring from the championship with the Bucs and his 1991 national championship ring from the University of Miami, TMZ reported.

The future Hall of Famer owes more than $6.7 million to various creditors, including hundreds of thousands of dollars in child support payments to at least four women, the celebrity news website reported.

He owes $853,000 to the IRS for 2006 and $89,000 for 2010, it said.

Sapp said he also owes $2,858 in medical bills for "corrective speech and language therapy."

The debts outweigh Sapp's $6.45 million in assets, TMZ reported. The assets will be liquidated as a result of his bankruptcy filing.

Sapp, 39, works for the NFL Network as an analyst after playing in the league for 13 seasons with the Bucs, who drafted him 12th overall in 1995, and the Raiders (2004-07).

He said his current salary with the network is $540,000 per season, but his deal expires in August and he is unsure if the network will extend it, TMZ reported.

In the documents, Sapp lists all his assets, which TMZ reported include:

• 240 pairs of Jordan sneakers and sandals

• Large nude women painting

• Lion skin rug (female lioness)

• Nike golf clubs

• De Grisogono watch (scratch on crystal, nicks and scratches on band)

• Boxing glove signed by Muhammad Ali

It was not clear where Sapp, who went to Apopka High in Central Florida, filed for bankruptcy.

> He's got large nude women painting for him? I guess they're able to reach the high places better than the small nude women can.

I read something not long ago about Jack Lambert, the Steelers linebacker of the 1970s. When his playing days were over, he disappeared from the limelight. It seems that durung his career, he saved, spent and invested wisely to the point where after football, he really didn’t have to work anymore.

And in the 1970s, football players didn’t pull in nearly as much money as players do today.

“hundreds of thousands of dollars in child support payments to at least four women”

Wealth wasn’t all he was distributing.

Don’t worry. The Super Bowl ring will be “found” eventually.

Large nude women painting

Wait. Are we talking about an amply sized woman holding a paint brush or a big painting of a naked woman? Inquiring minds want to know.

This is the guy on Inside the NFL with Chris Collinsworth and Phil Simms. Guess Showtime can’t keep him in enough shoes. Tebow gets the last laugh.

I heard that Patrick Cox of Taxmasters also declared bankruptcy. Bankruptcy is good. Won’t have to see his dumb commercial anymore.

"he's a blow hard plan and simple."

He sure is. I remember when he played for the Bucs. A group of HS Football coaches were invited to watch practice by John Gruden. Sapp (The name sure fits to a "T") came over and gave them a hard time. He was rude to them and just a plain jerk.
I lost respect for Gruden when he didn't do anything about it. He heard it all and apologized to the coaches.

Because your kids need to know that it is not how much you make but how much you save. Kids think millionaires can’t go broke. Foolish millionaires can and do.

Other than that, sure nobody need care about this one guy. But it is a good opportunity for parents to teach their children who follow football that foolish spending will bankrupt even a millionaire in short order. You never know, it could sink in.

Yeah, but did Lambert have 240 pairs of Chuck Taylor’s in his closet?

I guess we’ll be paying to feed, clothe, house and digitally equip him now.

If we aren’t already, under the squeaky clean welfare system.

Lion skin rug (female lioness)

As opposed to a male lioness.

This demonstrates Warren's War on Women.

Interviews with Jack Lambert show him to be a thinking man.

He did okay on the field.

How racist of him.

Liberal logic says that now Mr. Lambert will have to take care of Sapp’s arrogant ass.

Well, you gotta admit that Jack Lambert isn't exactly TV material. But he would be interesting in his opinions.

If Obama had a son who was a bankrupt former NFL player, he would look like Warren Sapp.
