Corky the kitten born with back-to-front hind legs can walk for the first time

A kitten born with his legs back to front and abandoned by its owners has been given a new lease of life after pioneering surgery.

Corky was found by little boy dragging himself along a pavement in Fargo, North Dakota, and was brought into an animal pound, where he was due to be put down.

But Gail Ventzke and Carol Stefonek, co-founders and directors of CATS Cradle Shelter, heard about the brave moggy and were intent on saving his life.

Seven-month-old Corky suffers from a congenital deformity called 'Bilateral Arthrogryposis', meaning his back legs were the wrong way round, and also crisscrossed like a corkscrew.

Staff decided to name the courageous kitty Corky in honour of his determination to drag himself around...

I’ll pick a fight with you on this (on several levels).
I pose the following questions:
Has the “space race” been a waist of money and time?
Was any of you money spent on this treatment?
Could this technology help “mankind” (pun intended too)?

flame on...

if people want to spend their money to repair a cat, what does it matter to you?

tax money... that’s a different story.

private money... that’s up to them

“Not worth the money that went into repairing it, should have just put it down instead.”

Perhaps. But I would spend my money on that kitten, before 90% of the people I know.

Sometimes you need a story to lift your spirits from the crap we see each and everyday, this is one such story.
Thanks for posting, there is a little good left in this world if you look hard enough.

Its acts of kindness like this that makes us separate from Communism, Marxism and Islam.

Of which I am proud of.

And in other countries the kitty would be curly fries.

Do you take lighter fluid and set fire to ant hills for fun in your spare time?

Just wondering.

I did that as a kid, zapping ants with a magnifying glass was also fun.

It’s eerie just how much the little guy looks like my cat when he was a kitten (not the leg issue, but the face, the fur color scheme, and the eyes).

Nice story. Thanks for posting it.

What a cold hearted individual you are.

Your feelings seem to be popular in America.

We would abort children born with defects, but we spend money operating on cats.

Don’t get me wrong I am all for this little cat, I just see hypocrisy in the way we treat unborn humans with defects.

Dude you somehow landed on the wrong thread.

Vetenarian colleges perform all sorts of difficult experimental operations. How else would they learn anything?

“Do you take lighter fluid and set fire to ant hills for fun in your spare time?”

LOL! that’s funny but besides the point. I grew up going to my uncles farm all the time. They has tons of cats there that were basically to keep the mice under control. They died like flies, disease and getting caught in farm machinery being two of the way they went. There were always more as cats breed almost as fast as the mice. Don’t see any reason to spend that kind of money fixing one when the shelters put down thousands of cats every day. Why not just get a good one that you don’t have to spend as much as a good car costs to make whole?

It’s called compassion.

And I have cared for feral cats and stopped the cycle on my property by catching them and neutering them-and I paid for all 30 of them-it took 2 years.

My next door neighbor had sheep and just fed them. He only did what he had to with them and every few months one would get sick and he would shoot it. I think he only had them because he liked to shoot them. He didn’t have a compassionate bone in his body, and would always let “nature do her thing”.He always told us to just “shoot all those damn cats”.
Now he shoots squirrels that get near his birdfeeder.I cringe every time I hear a shot.

We have dominion over the earth and especially with domestic animals, it is our duty to care for them.
As long as it is private money that is used for these animals that are thrown away and/or mistreated and/or defective-there is no issue.

And yes-people kill babies-THE WORST thing I think, that humans do...if I could, I would stop it tomorrow. It is horrific and barbaric...so for now, while I work on that, I choose to care for animals-they are not human, but compassion is compassion.

Looks just like my cat Basket, whom was rescued from a trash compactor when she was 4 weeks old. Someone just through the whole litter in the garbage.

I’ve always believed there’s something wrong with people who have no feeling for animals. I pity you folks, I really do. Remember the Scriptures that talk about God’s creation of the animals, how He found them all good, how He cares for them. And recall how He stopped Balaam from beating his donkey——and that the donkey could see the angel, but Balaam could not.

I hope your heart won’t always be so hard.
