I was looking for information about fishing on Lake Corpus Christi. I like to camp there for 2 or 3 days every month or so.
Uhmmm...according to published reports, there's some big fish in this lake.
TOPICS: Hobbies; Miscellaneous; Outdoors; Weird Stuff
KEYWORDS: bowfishing; corpuschristi; fish; monster
My wife and daughter won't swim there, after this.
I shouldn't let them see stuff like this.

One bad-a** fishie there.
Have seen some 6-7 footers taken from Lake Verret near my house.

"MATHIS It was a Saturday morning Brent Crawford really didn't intend to spend fishing. He had work to do." A man in the woods once happened upon a man standing in an ankle deep stream with a fishing pole in the water.
He asked the man, "Are you fishing in there?"
The man in the stream replied, "What's it look like I'm doin'?!! My wife asked me to peel potatoes but I told her I had to go fishing..."

How far back is the bow fisherman standing? The farther back he stands the bigger the gar is in relation to him.
If he was standing next to the gar with his hand on it the gar would not look nearly as big in relation to him.
It is still a big gar but not as big as it appears.

He’s got his hand on it. He’s nearly to the side of it. Look at the shadows under it and the stones going back to the piling. IMO, the gar is as big as it appears unless he’s a dwarf.
OTOH, I haven’t looked for creative photoshopping.

Gars look dangerous but are totally nonagressive toward humans. I used to even pet big alligator gars..

Yep. A few decades ago, bass fishing was really good, too. Should still be like that. It was also a nice lake to jump into for a swim or do some skiing. Back then, the State Park had a hydrant for running water at every campsite with showers nearby. Great place. Haven’t see it in ages.

Yes. The real dangers around Lake Mathis (oh, excuse me, Lake Corpus Christi) are cottonmouths, rattlesnakes and the like, but properly watchful swimmers and skiers don't need to be afraid of them, either.

Come to remember, accidental drowning and other accidents from carelessness would be the most likely dangers, like most other places.

Gars may not be aggressive or dangerous to humans...BUT, if I was swimming and anything approaching the size of that big b***h swam by me, I'd probably hurt my self getting "away"!
Did you notice in the story that there were several 6' male gar accompanying her?
You know, little, teensy 6' gar. With alligator teeth.
