Tell me about Wisconsin...specifically the south east corner. What should I know?

Posted on 06/21/2012 9:45:39 PM PDT by mamelukesabre

I am considering leaving iowa and going to wisconsin. But other than cheese, beer, dairy cows, and harley davidson motorcycles I know nothing about it. I was in wisconsin one weekend about 25 years ago. What I remember was the towns and neighborhoods reminded me of ohio.

Climate, economy, cost of living, politics, crime, wildlife, any unusual laws, taxes, gun rights, recreation, night life...whatever you can think of. If close to the great lakes I assume the climate will be mild. I hope they don't have mosquitoes like in Minnesota.

Despite all the obvious things, Madison is very pretty, set between two lakes.

"...I like Delafield or Mukwonago."

Indeed. I'd like to be smack in the middle between them.

Just to the south: ELEGANT FARMER PIE!
Just to the north: MARTY'S PIZZA!

I'd weigh three hundred pounds, though.

I had a great fishing trip to Sheboygan! It is also the bratwurst capital of the world.

Fishing, brats. What else do you need? (I assume you can get the beer and the woman for yourself.)

If not, maybe you should consider North Dakota, instead.

I know two people from W. and according to them, everything is W. is the best, first, largest, biggest, most wonderfull, record breaking, invented in, perfected in, first thought of in, written in, written about, started in, completed in and whatever ever other superlatives you can think of. You can be talking about banks, boats, hotdogs or cake, and the subject of W. will be worked into the conversation as the most, mostest and the better, best. So I guess they like it there. I drove through once and it was beautiful with the rolling hills and farms.

Only thing I remember about WI, was when the wife and I first married in 1960, in-laws said come to WI, plenty of work around Superior. The very day we got there, just over in MN, the entire Iron Range shut down over a big labor dispute.

Jobs became nonexistent overnight, wife stayed with in-laws, I hitch hiked to Chicago with ten bucks in one shoe and 15 in the other one. I have never had the desire to go back since.

We lived in the Fox Valley for 10 years, many small communities that are linked by the Fox River. Great rec, lots to do, family oriented. Appleton is the biggest community with airport, performing art center and shopping. You are also just about 45 min from Green Bay (Go Pac!) an hour from Milwaukee. Lots of rivers and lakes nearby, low cost of living, low crime.

Kenosha may still have a slight dem majority but it's a pretty city on the lake. They have the University Of Wi Parkside, Carthage College and Gateway a technical school. The lake front is very pretty and has museums and parks. Climate isn't too bad except when there is lake effect snow. Property taxes in Wi have been high but thanks to Gov Walker they are going to be kept under control. Chicago is 1 hr away Milwaukee 30 min. so you can enjoy the good things each have to offer like theater and restaurants and of course airports. Kenosha unlike Milwaukee is a pretty safe city and the public schools aren't bad. All and all a nice place to live.

If you must be in Milwaukee County, try Hales Corners (where I am.) Nice little community, close enough to Milwaukee that you can find the good things of the city, yet far enough that you avoid the idiocy of the Libtards in Tom Barrett’s hellhole.
