> This is a chat I just had with Allegiant Air. They showed that I had seat 32E but on their online seat assignment chart only shows 30 rows. In order to have any baggage, I had to pay $30. The thing about the charge was they didn't put that in until the very last step in booking confirmation. Why don't they just put their damn fares at they want to charge rather than screwing with us. Below is my chat.
Please wait, an agent will be with you shortly. Your chat session has started..
Cheryl: Thank you for contacting Allegiant Travel. My name is Cheryl. Thank you for your patience, as I may be assisting other customers.
How may I assist you today?
me: hi
> me: i have an unassigned seat, can i do online checkin [This is a recent change by Allegiant]
Cheryl: Thank you. We offer an advance check in option online. This can be done from the Check In tab. It can only be completed within 24 hours of travel. If your seat was not assigned in advance, a seat will be assigned to you at random for free. Please make sure to enter the name exactly as it appears on your itinerary. To avoid any issues, I suggest that you use capital letters. If you are unable to print out your boarding pass, please check in at the ticket counter two hours prior to your flight time.
> me: it says i have seat 32e...it only has 30 rows
Cheryl: That is your seat assignment . They are booked by the airport agents. Yes there are enough rows.
> me: so if that seat sucks as much as it does, you are now expecting me to pay for an upgrade????????
Cheryl: If you want to change the seating yes there is a fee.
> me: i already feel like i have been yanked by you guys charging me for carry-on baggage. are you guys trying to piss people off to no end?
Cheryl: You do not have to change the seat .
> me: that seat really sucks....i already don't like dealing with the whole TSA crap and tend to avoid flying because of that. could you forward this off to your superior(s). i know the people i am going up to work for were pissed to hear that there is a mandatory charge for carry-on.
Cheryl: Yes I will forward your concern.lIs there anything else I can help you with today?
> me: no...just know that this has me pissed...
Cheryl: Thank you for contacting Allegiant Travel. Have a great day.
Do they check private flights?
There are also airports who have hired their own security and don’t use the TSA.
>>There are also airports who have hired their own security and dont use the TSA<<
True — I am curious if they will be any better.
With buses, it’s not a matter of becoming “this bad.” They have always been “this bad.”
If you want to pay cattle car prices, expect a cattle car ride. If you want first class service, get out you gold American Express card.
Point wasn't the $s. It is the whole yank factor. Why aren't they up front with how much they want to charge for a seat? I don't treat people this way. Do you? And we are just supposed to put up with it?
Did you scroll down the seating chart? Didn’t think so.
I understand the TSA has recently started including private air travel.
My ideal system of air travel would be:

I tried to convince the Bozeman Airport to rid themselves of the TSA. I see a couple of MT airports on this list, so there may still be hope.
Been awhile since I road on a bus.
You mean buses now charge for the stuff you carry on? Does the bus fare you are charged end up dramatically higher than their advertised fare? Do buses now charge for a seat?
You get to take off when you want. See something you like, make an unschedule stop. Seats are comfortable.
Didn't Baraq tell us this was bad?

Thank you for your kind words about charter. I’m a charter pilot. Our passengers are treated to luxurious travel, privacy, no TSA, and our passengers make their own schedule. The only people on board are those that my customers want to have on board. My passengers can drive out to the aircraft and have free parking. I put their car in a hangar while they are gone and when they return, their car is waiting with the air conditioner running. Food and beverage is exactly what my customers order. There’s more to the advantages of charter, but you get the idea.
Peoples Express....$99....ROUND TRIP!
I did it often!...lol
“I understand the TSA has recently started including private air travel.”
If it is a charter aircraft with a takeoff weight in excess of 12,500 pounds, the charter operator must compare the passenger manifest with the TSA no fly list. Otherwise, the TSA is not involved.
An exception would be flights into Washington Reagan Airport. In that case, flights must originate from an airport where the passengers, crew and baggage are all subject to TSA screening. If the charter aircraft does not have a secure door (and most small charter jets do not) then an armed security guard must be posted between the cabin and the cockpit.
I have no idea. All the things you mention involve money. But, even was I was a poverty-stricken kid, I could never even entertain the notion of going Greyhound. It just sucked too much. Crap, I'd take an Amtrak that's four hours late before I'd take a freakin' motor coach cross-country.
That’s good to hear. Thanks!
