'The Olympics has destroyed womanhood': Columnist provokes storm...'chestless, manlike' competitors

A Turkish newspaper columnist has been heavily criticised after writing an article which said the Olympic Games is destroying the female figure.

The piece - called "Womanhood is Dying at the Olympics"... soon spread around the world by saying the Games was distorting women's bodies ....

'Their breasts – the symbol of womanhood, motherhood – flattened into stubs as they were seen as mere hindrances to speed.

'I am not even talking about female javelin throwers, shot-put athletes, weightlifters, wrestlers and boxers.' He added that the appearance of many female Olympians was 'pathetic'.

Following the publication of the article, Mr Aytug was strongly criticised by people on Twitter and his own female colleagues.

men especially the student young guy are looking like women more and more.
On my trip to the north east I found around Boston that the majority of student guys are nothing but girlie boys, much like obama.

How any woman would be wanting to be with one of the girlie boys is beyond me.

That’s right, America today is SOOO much better than the America of our grandparents. Other than 60,000,000 abortions, STDs, divorce, fatherless children, poverty, homosexuality, AIDS, gangs, murder-rate...feminism has made us just a grand place.

We have problems but it is better to live today than in the 50's...especially for women.

“Would you like some more Koolaid?”

Oh... I’m serving tea. Koolaid goes straight to my hips. Do you really think that women competing in sports like swimming, gymnastics, softball, weight lifting, track and field etc... has anything to do with abortion, STD’s, divorce, fatherless children, poverty, homosexuality, AIDS, gangs and a high murder rate?!! I suggest you research the benefits of females that compete in sports... read a little about how young women benefit by healthy competition and exercise. Granted, American society has more evils than the times of our grandparents BUT involving young girls/women in sports helps parents reduce the risk of many of these evils.

Far worse, the emasculation of men in the United States has destroyed American male's ability to compete with other nations. Of the 34 medals won by the U.S., 23 of them were won by women. This is a far worrisome statistic that does not bode well for males in the U.S.

Blame Title IX.

Most have never had a fight, they seem to have been raised by an over bearing soft woman who wanted a girl and is it anywonder when AD’s on TV, movies etc have young guys now looking girlie.

Even the older actors like Stallone are a dying breed and are being replaced by Sadler etc.
What guy would have played a homo years ago? NOne they would have had some pride about themselves

That’s a very good point. Even though the line between amateur and professional competition has been erased in the Olympics, a lot of these events are still “amateur” in the U.S. because there simply is no professional venue to pursue a career. Like, what does a gymnast do to become a “professional” in the U.S.?

No drag queen has a body like that - that is pure woman - maybe too much woman for you - but PURE woman. A very athletic and also feminine woman as well - I notice you picked a picture with her "war face" on.

I don’t know anything about the author, and really don’t care. I do know that most Turkish people think Saudi Wahabbi Islam is ridiculous like we do.

A typical Turk is as Muslim as a typical French person is Catholic.

You silly girl... you aren’t making a Bundt cake, vacuuming, dusting, sewing a quilt or churning butter. You are debating some men(and other less feminine women) on a political forum. Silly girl... it will give you a headache. We should let the boys handle all this intellectual stuff and do something really feminine like scrubbing the bathrooms. LOL!!!

“Our great grandparents sent their daughters to finishing schools, where they would learn the finer points of hospitality and motherhood.”

Yours may have. Both my grandmas worked on their parent’s farms. My husband’s grandmas had a similar fate, too. The SOP was “Drop out of school in 8th grade so you can work and help in the fields. Then get married and get the hell out.”

Finishing school? Ha!

You sound very much like Hillary complaining that she didn’t “bake cookies.”

Do you look down on your grandmothers that much?

Are you saying that the Olympics should be men-only?

Why are there mens + womens events? Why separate the sexes? Because there are no differences between the sexes (ahem) why do we tolerate this segregation?

Perhaps there should be only one set of events and if women can qualify then they qualify. To perpetuate this segregation is sexist. Cant have that!

Guess the Turkish writer in question, did not watch the tennis events. Quite a few ladies are endowed in the chest department there. (see Julia Goerges of Germany, Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic, Victoria Azarenka who is the current number 1 in the world as a few examples).

Both my grandmas worked on their parent’s farms.

Actually, so did mine.

I'm not trying to make this about social class. Many (most?) don't send their daughters to soccer camp today either--due to money.

Point being is that we do not value traditionally feminine rolls today--and push our daughters to be a lot like men...

Feminism has had some good effects, but, a lot more bad...(see my posts above). Feminism is often very anti-feminine, and its the air we all breath.

Your post is not nearly as clever as you imagine it to be.

Do you believe that the Olympics should be men-only or that it should be unisex?

She didn’t say she was in favor of abortions. She didn’t say she was in favor of STDs, divorce, fatherless children, poverty, homosexuality, AIDs, gangs, or murders. That’s quite a logical leap you’ve taken, from women being strong and healthy to abortion and murder! Let me turn the tables and give you a taste of your own medicine: are you saying that if women stopped competing in sports and became soft, weak, and helpless, that somehow there would be no more abortions, gangs, fatherless children, homosexuality, AIDs, gangs, and murders? Surely not.

Here’s a news flash: farm women in this country have always been strong, slender, independent, and tough. Physical strength has NOTHING to do with feminism or with politics.

But girls who take part in sports tend not to be those who get pregnant before marriage. They’re busy, they’re working hard, they have self-respect, and they don’t want to ruin their lives by an out-of-wedlock pregnancy. They are NOT the problem. It’s the girls who are sitting around with nothing to do except get in trouble who get knocked up.

Clearly you are challenged in reading comprehension. Please address my premise - why do we segregate competitors by sex? How is this justified?

***’Their breasts – the symbol of womanhood, motherhood – flattened into stubs as they were seen as mere hindrances to speed. ***

Nothing new. The ancient AMAZONS would cut off their right breast because it interfered with pulling a bow string.
