Supermarkets being looted in Spain

Well, its not the term used by them, they call it food expropriation, but what else can you call filling carts with stuff and leaving by force without paying?

When thousands of Argentineans left after the crisis and moved to Spain I’m sure they never thought they would see that again. To be fair they aren’t taking booze and big screen TVs, but taking what isn’t yours is still under the same principle. Would you do any different if you couldn’t put food on the table and spent months unemployed? In this case Trade Union workers filled carts with basic food staples to be redistributed by an ONG among the needy. This happened in well know socialist cities of Cadiz and Sevilla, which has 32% unemployment.

As far as I can tell, corporations own very little land aside from a few big corporate farms and most of the food is still produced by private farmers who sell to the manufacturers.

The big land owners are people like you and I who may own an acre or less and the feds and states. I live not far from the Chrysler proving ground which is huge but its still a tiny speck in the map.

I’m sure everyone has heard the rumors that something is planned for the week before the election.

A PLANNED financial implosion would not surprise me. It may be their last chance for looting on a vast scale (not the convenience store...the brokerages/banks a la John Corzine).

I had forgotten that the Mormons stress one years supply of food and basic items. That is not a bad policy, if you have the room to story things. Andrew Tobias makes the same points in several of his books, oddly enough.

Don't suppose these idiots gave any thought to what happens when the store shelves are empty and trucks stop arriving or ships fail to dock.

When chaos breaks out in this country I'm relying on the looters to hit the appliance stores first to pick up a new flat screen just before the grid goes down. In the meantime, I intend to head for the nearest wholesale store (Sam's, Costco, etc) and buy all the foodstuffs I can with soon to be worthless credit cards (while the grid is still up), or checks and fiat currency which will be worthless in no time.

Many of these ‘yutes’ will think no more about killing you than most people think about stepping on a roach. That will be the test of many. Most preppers I know are Christian people and they will hesitate to do what they might have to do to stop the ‘yutes’. On the other hand the ‘yutes’ won’t think twice nor lose a minute of sleep, in fact they will smile and laugh about it.

The flip side of this is numbers, training, and skill. A majority of the population is productive - decent people outnumber thugs. Also, training and skill matter. Thugs hit with about one out of seven aimed shots and kill with one out of ten hits. Civilians shooting in self-defense hit one out of two shots and kill with close to one out of two hits (precise values vary for both statistics, but those numbers are reasonably reliable). We don't need nearly as large a percentage of good Christians defending themselves before wilding gets expensive for the criminal class.

No one else is saying it...so I will.

Looks like Hispano-Iberian culture peaked in 1588 and has been slip-sliding away ever since.

We really should be worried for our kids.

Don't worry, they'll have kids that will pay for all of this. It's settled science. /s

The truth always bears repeating. You have no idea how many even here on FR think that this kind of thing can’t happen here or to them.

I concur: adding fantasy quotes to serious subjects dilutes the seriousness and credibility of the topic.

The truth of any coming collapse is not borne out by a quote from a science fiction TV show... and I’m a Trekkie!

All I can say is that the wife and I got to see Seville last year. We saw the onset of this in Barcelona and Madrid this year.

It won’t be long.

Many Americans have useful skills, but we’re not so involved in politics now. Funny—most who believe that they are highly skilled will know that they are useless before long. Many don’t even realize that they are miseducated despite the costs of their educations, or that their incomes are coming from a monstrous pile of debt.

True: holosights might not work well after SHTF/TEOTWAWKI, the end. Maybe good iron sites would be tougher.

Oh...you said “holosuites.” Never mind! ;-)

The truth is the Truth no matter where you find it. I think back biting and nitpicking do far more toward diluting such threads.

Let me rewrite it:

John Doe: “Let me tell you something about people, Nephew. They’re a wonderful, friendly people, as long as their bellies are full and their tv’s are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, hot showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people... will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty gangbanger. You don’t believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes.”

Maybe you can see what the meaning is now.
