Good God...memories.I remember listening to “Don’t It Make You Wanna Go Home” over and over in Basic Training in ‘69.To this day I get the same feeling in my gut when I hear it as I did 40+ years ago.

I loved Joe South and his music back in the day.
I read several years back that he was living homeless in Hawaii. If true...looks like he must have made it back home.

My Son-in-Law works for Southern Poly Tech (SPSU). This evening my daughter told my wife that Joe South attended Southern Tech, way back when, but dropped out to make his music.
I have at least three Joe South songs on my YouTube playlists of less than 200 songs.
Rest well Joe South!

I liked Joe’s song ‘Hush’, later covered by Deep Purple. I still have the 45.

Had the single: Games People Play
Wore it out as a kid from NJ in the late 60s

"Down In The Boondocks," "I Knew You When," "Children"
A GREAT GREAT songwriter. Most of his songs are damn near perfect.

Billy Joe Royal recorded several of his songs in the 1960s, including Down in the Boondocks and I Knew You When", RIP, Joe. Those were two of my favorite songs when I was a teenager.

One of my all time favorite snogs has been “Don’t it make you wanna go home”. Looking at the changes in places I used to go and even where I live makes the lyrics even more profound. I remember all his songs they were hits when I was growing up.
