This Sunday's feature is producer Samuel Bronston's penultimate film and his final historical epic. This was made in the days long before CGI when they had to use real crowds and sets. Sophia is lovely as always. Sir Alec Guinness and Christopher Plummer both shine in the acting department. Dimitri Tiomkin's music score is haunting. If this movie's plot seems somewhat familiar, Ridley Scott later recycled much of TFOTRE's story for his 2000 hit "Gladiator".

Got it on DVD. Also got EL CID. Will be watching 55 DAYS AT PEKING this evening on TCM.
It shows what should be done when protesters bent on murder attack the Diplomatic MIssions.

Make sure it is the totally restored version! For years all we could see was the cut up version which removes much of the film’s continuity.

One of my all-time favorite movie lines.
