vanity question about food intolerance: What could the problem be with Costco birthday cake? I have had a piece every day since Tuesday, and have also had miserable chest discomfort/gas/burping discomfort almost immediately afterwards. Which ingredient could be the culprit? The shortening in the frosting? Soy of some sort? I am quite ready to give up and never eat this again, despite the fact that I really like it, but I need to know which part is the problem, so I can make other plans the next time we have a birthday around here.
Does the package provide the cake’s ingredients?
Probably the cake.
Gall bladder....
gluten intolerant? allergic to one of the listed ingredients? really need professional advice on this.
You could always bake your own.
their cakes gives me the wind too. it’s probably the frosting and the filing. Did the cake need to be kept in the fridge?
Wheat? There is some amazing info on the following site if you dig a little.

Normally I would suspect soy, but Costco is a leftist operation, so if you’re a conservative, it’s probably a normal reaction.
if there is lard in it that may be the problem. I have the same reaction as you with baked goods, especially pie crust with lard.
Best bet? Next year have some real cook, that you know, make the cake for you. Custom.
May cost a little more, may be a little smaller, but real cooks need work, too.

I would check the ingredients and see if it was made with canola oil.
I eat what I want — and lots of it! — and here’s the amazing thing:
When I eat something, or too much of something, or too fast, sometimes it makes me feel like I need to burp.
So I BURP! And then I feel OK and get back to it.
If you’re not a chick, give that a try. (Apparently there are different rules for chicks, according to my wife. And different rules for men, too, when chicks are around.)
Well, you may want to read the ingredients as there is something that causes complete loss of sexual desire, bitchiness and constant nagging.
Wedding cake. (not birthday cake)
That is factory-food. God knows what is in it. Make a real scratch cake. Takes a little while and tastes so good!
Check the ingredients list! If you feel like typing, you might list the ingredients here.
What known allergies, intolerances?
Have you had it before without issue? if so, how old are you and have you had a check-up recently? The heart can mimic heartburn sometimes. Better safe than sorry.
Was the icing or any part of the cake labeled as “Sugar Free”? We bought some “sugar free” cookies at Walmart which gave all of us such gas we dumped the rest in the trash.
