A Texas mother says a local school district is covering its own rear end by considering a policy change regarding corporal punishment after a male vice principal paddled her daughter so hard it left a nasty mark.
The district in Springtown, just outside of Fort Worth, allows corporal punishment, but only when doled out by a teacher or administrator of the same sex as the student. But when Taylor Santos, 15, allegedly let a classmate copy her homework, Vice Principal Kirt Shaw disciplined the girl with a large wooden paddle, which he swung with a violent, upward motion, according to the girl's mom, Anna Jorgensen.
She was telling me it was numb and that it burned, Jorgensen said. And it looked like a burn. She slept on her side that night. She was more humiliated and embarrassed than anything, but the more she and I thought about it, it wasnt fair and I thought I needed to do something about it.
But instead of reprimanding Shaw for the cross-gender blow, the district is considering doing away with the requirement of same-sex spanking. Springtown ISD Superintendent Mike Kelley told FoxNews.com that the districts seven-member board will consider revising the policy at a meeting Monday evening.

The 'board of education' was employed frequently when I was in school. For some, it was indeed humiliating. For others, a badge of honor.
But now her story is out, for all to see.
Isn't that more humiliating, to be national news for helping someone cheat on a test, than taking your lumps?
The plank has no respect for gender, is unmoved by it, and as such, trying to make the wielder of the device out to be some sort of pervert is crap.
Guys had to bend forward at the waste, as did the girls...but the girls also had to pull their skirts tight across their rear, so their petticoats couldn’t overly soften the whack(s). 1957-60, 6th-8th grades.
The paddle was 3/4” varnished plywood, with rows of regularly spaced 1/2” holes drilled in it. It was inscribed, “Pray for fast legs, and a slow teacher!”
“Assume the position” had an entirely different meaning back then/there. *<];-’)
Spare the rod, spoil the child.
My 94-year old mom likes to tell the story where she and her three sisters all got in trouble. Her mom told them she was going to cut a switch off the tree and they better be presenting their bare bottoms when she got back.
Except her mom, when she entered the house with switch in hand, couldn’t control her laughter upon the sight of all 4 butts lined up as she opened the door!
The “rod” is God’s word and it obviously was spared on this cheater.
Anna Jorgensen told FoxNews.com her daughter initially received two days of in-school suspension for allowing another student to copy her work. When she was offered the chance to take a paddling in lieu of the second day of suspension, she submitted.
Shaw first had the girl call her mother to approve the punishment, which is required. Jorgensen said she agreed, but had no idea the whack would come from a man or be so severe.
As you can see the problem here is genetic. The mom is as bad as the daughter.
Im not after money, she said when asked if she was considering legal action. Im after doing whats right by the students.
He would give them tips like, bend your elbow and put your shoulder into it.
...for God's sake, she is a 15 year old girl and there are a lot of predator perverts around ESPECIALLY in schools!
No different—it is a male authority figure assaulting the buttocks of a female loved one and real men ain't got a sense of humor about that stuff.
Besides, how long will a school stay safe when one of it's known activities is allowing grown men to paddle the bottoms of teenage girls?
Just because something happens (like what happened to you) doesn't make it right...I raised my son never never to hit a girl—with this he can come back with, “What if she is bad?”
They showed the idiot mother and her daughter on the local news. The fruitcake doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Another idiot mother who showed up at the meeting was telling the news that paddling a child was sending a message to men that it was okay to beat women in life.
Quite frankly, the simplest solution would be to expel the little princess for misbehaving. Would give the “mother” some quality time to correct the past 15+ years of raising a spoiled brat.
Corporal punishment existed in Chicago public elementary schools in the 1940s, although perhaps not officially sanctioned. Paddles were not used but books were slammed on heads, rulers slapped on hands, ears pulled, heads held by the chin pushed against blackboards (which really were black),and occasionally, mouths washed with soap.
“... I received paddle whacks from Principals all through my ... edumacation”.
I guess I am seeing this situation with different eyes. Currently, I have a high schooler, middle schooler and elementary school child. Unfortunately, today’s teacher cannot be compared to yesterday’s teacher. For example, Tainan, what would your school have done with an alcoholic teacher? (ours offered a program after he showed up three sheets to the wind FIVE times in one month. He isn’t teaching anymore after he exposed himself and played with himself in view of a private girls school bus). What would your school have done with a married female teacher that had an affair with a Senior boy? (ours still teaches). What about the substitute that popped some sort of prescription pills for “pain” only to pass out in a middle school? (yes, she is still substituting).
My fear with corporal punishment is two-fold. Some teachers have requested suspensions for “behaviors” that are more political/personality based. For example, one teacher requested a five day suspension for my son for “disrespect”. She told his history class that American soldiers during WWII were brutal killers and he verbally didn’t agree. After our involvement, he wasn’t suspended. My biggest concern, however, is parent responsibility vs school responsibility. Spanking a child should be a parent’s job. Suspension, after school detention, loss of credit.. the school’s job. I just get a weird vibe with government employees stepping in and doing a parent’s job. I find it a bit hypocritical that a school will suspend a student if he pushes/hits another kid yet has a “paddle” ready for punishment. Note: I have spanked my kids in the past for doing something wrong. I’m not against spanking.. just someone else doing “my” job.
Looks like it’s time for Democracy to go away. People get the kind of government they deserve.
I didn’t comment on the other threads but in my days at school, if I’d gotten licks from a teacher or the principal, it would have been mild compared to what I would get at home.
In any other situation in our society, this man would be charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Not even police are allowed to strike a cooperating suspect.
There are plenty of ways to discipline a student w/o beating them. What happens when the child unexpectedly moves during the beating, causing the board to strike a vital area or break a bone?
But, the child beating advocates here think it is just fine for a man to beat a 15 yo girl. Where does the beating begin? High school, Middle school, elementary school, or kindergarten? Yeah, let's beat 5 year old children with a board. But then, your opinion unwanted. The AUTHORITIES make those decisions, not you.
Not only would I sue the school & file criminal charges against the man, but I would tell him if I ever got the opportunity, I would get a board & beat the hell out of him.
Remember folks, these are not the evenhanded, patient teachers & administrators you had back in school. These are the perverts & criminals who teach your kids about anal sex, “social Justice”, & how wonderful Obama is. I don't want this filth even touching my child.
There is a greater evil occurring here than just assault. Kids are being indoctrinated to the idea that authority - teachers, principals, police, & gov't officials - are immune to the laws that govern the rest of us. "I can't hit mommy, mommy can't hit daddy, daddy can't hit the neighbor, but the strange man a school can beat the hell out of me with a board". Lesson #2 is safe group sex.
For the legal minds here: How is it legal to assault a child with a board? If it is legal in school, can my boss a work beat me with a board?
The most respected, disciplined organization in this country - the military - strictly forbids superiors striking lower ranking people & violence, in general. Please criticize this policy, if you can.
So a mother who objects to a male government employee spanking her teenage daughter is an idiot?
Why do you have so much faith in government employees, especially given the sort of government employees who are in public schools nowadays?
Plenty of predators perverts in schools. From news reports, a lot of them are women. And you don’t seem to be concerned that perverts with same sex attraction disorder may be administering the spankings.
Next time just give her a week’s suspension and let mama-with-a-different-name deal with her.
