(VANITY) Was just called by a poll company - Public Policy Polling

Posted on 09/26/2012 8:06:21 PM PDT by justlittleoleme

I thought I was actually going to get to answer a real poll

They asked me four questions:

1. Are you aware there a national election coming up?

2. Is this a land line or cell phone?

3. What is your age.

4. How likely are you to vote? I said very likely.

Then they said, ok thank you thats all the questions we have and hung up on me.

SO. I wasn't asked the poll questions because I am a likely voter? Or my age or landline? Yea that makes alot of sense. That should be a really accurate poll.

I am located in Utah.

They will put you down as an Obama vote..doesn’t matter that they didnt even bother asking you who you will vote for, as long as your a likely voter they will put you down as an Obama vote..that is how these polls are being made, by doing BS tactics like this

Age and landline tell them a lot. If you answered over 50 and on a landline, very conservative.

I had a call the other day answered the questions as if I was a 20 year old black female Independent. Said I was voting for Romney. But not sure of who I was voting for in the Senate race.

Someone just called my house now, my Mom answered the phone and I heard her tell them “I’m not interested” then she hung up. I asked her who called and she said “political research” I have no idea what organization they are with since she told them she wasn’t interested. We have Prop 32 Ads on constantly so maybe it had to do with that not sure

PPP? (chuckle) They’ll take your response as “Well, he didn’t say at any time during our call that he’s voting for Romney. Mark him down for Obama!”.

Probably not a real political poll. This could be a company collecting basic data for telemarketers, creating a list to sell. Hot numbers where someone answers.

I get calls that are a poll, but after I answer three questions, as a “reward”, I can sign up for a free cruise to the Bahamas.

I was included in the Quinnipiac-NYT/CBS poll that was such crap to read today.

Completely unscientific in their data analysis and reported results.

I’ve gotten a few calls lately showing polling firm names on the caller I.D. and when I answer the phone there are a few clicks and silence. I say “hello” a couple of times thinking that it’s an automated call that needs to be routed to a live person, but then the call is dropped. I guess they’re counting me as an Ubama voter, too. After this election we’ll find that the level of distrust and disgust with the media and the polling companies will be at an all-time high, on par with used car salesmen and shady lawyers.

Most polling places run different polls to determine candidate of choice, likely voters, registered voters, and demographic information. Then they mix it up in their own recipe and spit out a number.

Sounds like you were polled on the demographic for the likely voter.

I got one on Voter ID laws:

I am a Black woman, college educated, generally consider myself to be 'liberal leaning' between 30-40 years old and I support voter ID laws.

That should help their demographics.

That is my thought as well.

Better to answer a known, legitimate, online poll than to give information to strangers over the phone when the stranger initiates the call.

“Don’t pick up the phone if you don’t recognize the number” is a sanity keeper during election season.

I live in Los Angeles . This election I see more Romney stickers than Obama. This was never so in 2008. You would hardly see Mcain Stickers. This is a big secret , even Hispanics are dogging Obambie . I would say Californa is not safe for him . I feel it’s about 50/50 who wins this stinking state . What does that say for th rest of country. In 2008 , I predicted early on that obammer would win when he broke away from Hillary. This time the pollsters are making this dramatic . It’s a safe bet to say that ROMNEY has the wind pushing him . He will coast to become 45th president. It’s a given . Look at obammers faces. ROMNEY was selected at least four years ago . Strings are behind the scenes.

EXPANDED DEFINITION OF EXEMPT ORGANIZATIONS

What is an Exempt Organization?

In general, an Exempt Organization is not required to access the National Do Not Call Registry, but is allowed access as an Exempt Organization, if one or more of the following is true:

1. Your organization is not subject to either the FTC’s or the FCC’s jurisdiction. For example, a non-profit charitable organization may be an Exempt Organization, assuming, of course, that it is truly a non-profit. Entities that have been granted tax exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code are not necessarily Exempt Organizations for purposes of the National Do Not Call Registry. See, e.g., FTC v. National Consumer Council, Inc., and FTC v. Debt Management Foundation Services, Inc., at http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2005/03/creditcouncel.htm
2. Your organization does not engage in any “telemarketing” or “telephone solicitation” activities, as defined by the FTC and FCC, respectively. For example, survey calls and political polling calls are not covered by the definition of “telemarketing” or “telephone solicitations.” An organization that places ONLY these types of calls may be an Exempt Organization.
3. Your organization qualifies for one or more of the specific exemptions contained in the FTC’s and FCC’s rules, such as:

1. you only call to solicit charitable contributions; or
2. you only call consumers with whom you have an established business relationship; or
3. you only call consumers from whom you have received written permission to call; or
4. you only make business-to-business calls.

If you are a for-profit telemarketer, you are NOT an Exempt Organization, even if you call consumers on behalf of an Exempt Organization, such as a non-profit. See, e.g., National Federation of The Blind v. FTC, 420 F.3d 331 (4th Cir. 2005).

Nah, I prefer not rewarding telemarketers/scammers, etc by answering the phone when they call.

Answered call = Incentive for them to call again.

Honestly? Don't give any information to any stranger who randomly calls you. If they repeat the call, route their number to an answering machine or block them entirely.

You really don't know who's calling you.

#18 - thanks for the perspective.

We visited LA not too long ago and hit some South American restaurants. Not too many here in the Phoenix area, mostly Mexican which any Islander or South American will tell you isn't nearly the same.

My wife picked up a Latin Periodical that they leave out in the front of stores and restaurants. The stuff they said about obama made our heads spin. They basically claimed all of these tremendous achievements and how things were going "super swell" (in Spanish) because obama had saved the country.

My wife was shaking her head at all of it. This is what they are spoon feeding the Latino population in LA. It's in the paper and it's even more blatant on the big Latin cable channels. I didn't see any conservative counter to it via mass media.

OTOH, Latinos in LA know when they can't find a decent paying job, their business takes a hit and when a general sense of malaise hits society. From there it's not such a leap to realize obama has destroyed the economy.

It's a matter of how many people are willing to do the right thing and see beyond the endless propaganda. Historically, that's much more difficult than it sounds.

Here's to hoping they do see the truth and drop obama come November.
