Mods (moderns) and Rockers (rock and roll) strived against each other in the 1960's . Some called them plaids and greasers (from their oil slicked hair) Just anwser the questions to see which one you are...

I heard Townshend in an interview a long long time ago describing the band meeting Keith Moon. Pete said he, Roger and John were mods then and when Moon showed up to try out for the open drummer's spot he looked like a rocker so they were thinking 'oh, s#!t, this isn't going to work.' Then Moon started tying his drum kit down and they really thought they had a wacko on their hands. Of course he played, blew their minds and the need to tie down his kit became obvious. And he was in!
My favorite Moonie story was when they were headed to the airport, and Keith said, “I gotta go back to the hotel, I forgot something.” So they go back, and when Keith returned they asked what it was that was so urgent, and Keith said, “I forgot to blow up the toilet.”

It was a different thing in america. the mod vs rocker thing did not exist in america.
Here it was greaser vs preppie. Greasers were blue collar boys who worked their way through high school. They worked evenings at a trade while going to school in the day. The preppies went for all the sports and didnt’ work. After highschool preppies either went to college or they went to west point.
A greaser was a boy who worked in a trade that got him greasy fingernails. A preppie was a boy who was preparing for college. their wheels were not so disimilar in america as they were in england.
preppies had newer cars and did not ride motorcycles.
greasers had old cars, heavily modified...and harley motorcycles heavily modified, and english motorcycles heavily modified.
Both greasers and preppies were equally adept at fighting. Both greasers and preppies were equally adept at racing. Both greasers and preppies were equally adept at scoring chicks.
The rivalry was not like that in england.

Probably my favorite album ever. I’m going to see them in November. It ought to be interesting.
Pete’s autobiography comes out this month, can’t wait to read it.
This is one of the songs that got left off of the album, which was a shame because I thought it was great, and really explained the character of Jimmy better than anything.

I was stationed in England in the 60’s. I remember that the Beatles were identified as Mods and the Stones were Rockers. My personal opinion at the time was that both groups were punks looking for attention and needed to grow up.

There's a slide show with pics from the movie but mostly real pics of mods and rockers. The song isn't from Quadrophenia but Thunder Thumb's licks more than make up for that.
I went to see Roger Waters in May and their were ever type of person there. Business men, parents with teens like my self. Pink Floyd is by far the most inovative group of the late 60s and 70s. Think of it this way. Their last album was 94. When was the Who’s or Beatles or Rolling Stones last Album? When was the last time the Who or Beatles packed 400 thousand people into a concert like Roger Waters did in Argentina?
