WEST HARTFORD ——

The beef is there, but where's the pickle?

That's the question students at Hall High School have been asking on hamburger day in the cafeteria since the food services department made menu changes to meet new school lunch rules from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Students are "outraged over the removal of pickles and salt from the cafeteria at Hall to meet nutrition guidelines," student representative Kendall Teare told the school board last week.

The country is going to HELL in a handcart, but losing salt and pickles is more important than losing freedom?

Losing salt and pickles IS losing freedom, in a way these students can understand.

If you deal in abstract political theory, the eyes of most folks are going to glaze over. When you can identify an issue that directly impacts someone, instead of acting the elitist, you should grasp the issue, and use it to recruit and motivate the resistance.

here is a thought, bring your own salt and pickles. I would think that a dilll round would fit easily in a pill bottle and salt packets are easily found or make your own salt shaker.

Having Washington dictate what our kids can eat at school IS losing freedom!

By losing their salt and pickles, they LOST THEIR FREEDOM....OF CHOICE.

The thing that irritates me is that the demonization of salt has largely been debunked. The federal guidelines haven’t caught up with the science.

Federal guidelines will NEVER catch up. Their duty is strictly control.

My thoughts exactly. Or, an enterprising youngster could see this as a market opportunity. Load up on salt packets before leaving home in the morning then sell them for a quarter apiece outside the lunch room. Big dill pickles go for a buck each. Slice ‘em yourself.

A “guideline” is a suggestion. This is no guideline. This is a regulation. The government has no right to do this.

If they brought their own salt and pickles, I’m sure it would be found during the lunch bag and body cavity search. How the he!! do we allow the USDA to do this?

But possession of a pill bottle might get you suspended for weeks or expelled, even, unless you have the proper medical documentation, submitted in triplicate to the school administration, and approved by the school board prior to bringing the pill bottle to school; said pill bottle needing to be held under lock and key in the vault in the principal’s office.

I love it that the Yutes are getting a “taste” of Big Brother in the lunch room.

It will be the best instruction they ever receive in ther schooling.

Miltie, this may be the only *unintended consequence* of the new regs.

Being such a *true blue* state, I doubt if much will come from this....students and parents will roll over and play dead. I’d be very surprised if the opposite came true.
