Vanity: Enemy of the State

Posted on 11/24/2012 4:33:34 PM PST by chrisser

My wife and I were at my parents for Thanksgiving, along with my sister.

During dinner conversation, we discovered my sister was an enthusiastic Obama supporter. Unfortunately, the conversation ended up in a long political argument. My parents refused to say how they voted, but it was pretty obvious they're drinking the Koolaide too, along with my brother, who wasn't there.

As you can imagine, I've been thinking a lot about this since. There's more than a little bit of regret I have from the conversation, but beyond that, I think it was the first time I've actually come face to face with the mindset of the other side.

Most of you have probably been there and seen the unbelievable lack of information, complete ignorance of history, acceptance of propaganda as fact, and just the stupidity and immorality that otherwise good people can accept.

I'm saddened by the whole episode, but more than that, I'm more than a little afraid. I can't help but think about the history of Nazi and pre-Nazi Germany, of the Russian and Chinese "revolutions", and the other repeated examples of the horrors of socialism and the relative ease with which their countries' populations accepted them, even with enthusiasm.

Again, this is probably old hat to a lot of us here.

But, as I was out in the garage, patching up one of our old cars for the 3rd or 4th time, trying to keep it driveable so we don't have to spend money on a new one (even though we must be "the rich", since our taxes are going to go up even more), I had a lot of time to think, and I'm faced with the reality that, someday in the future, I am likely to be an enemy of the state.

I know I'm not going to be a member of the ruling elite in the coming new order. Nor will I be one of their supporters. That means I'll either be a member of the vocal dissent that gets killed off early on, the resistance that gets hunted down later (I suspect this is where I'll end up), or I can chose to be a slave to the state - and I refuse to be the latter.

It's a sobering thought. I love my country. I never thought I would ever take action against her. But I can't help feeling that, at some point, if I value freedom and my rights as an individual, then I will end up her enemy.

Anyone thought along similar lines? If so, how do you deal with it, 'cause I'm pretty darned depressed about the idea.

Until he controls a military that will follow unlawful and unconstitutional orders, he will never control the people.

The US military isn't large enough to control the people of the US. Can't do it.

Wake up and smell the Gramsci. The authoritarian State is brought to you this time by devious hegemonic benevolent forces, not the usual military oppressive “force” or through rabid revolutionary means like the well organized “Leninist” in the late 19th early 20th century. The cultural revolution is leading to the oppression; again wake up and smell the Social Theory” arising.

Listen - the enemies of our country are Obama and his administration, and all their lackeys.
When you stand up and fight against them, you are fighting for your country.

Long agl I took an oath to "Support, and defend the Constitution against enemys foreign, and domestic."

There is no expiration date!

If push comes to shove, I will have no problem upholding that oath, defending the Constitution against domestic enemys.

Resistance to tyranny is obedience to God.

If by “working hard” means they are given power over others, then yes I can see it. The TSA being a perfect example of this. Give them a small wage, but give them state backed power and they will be motivated to do whatever the regime wants.

I'm not as worried about the military as I am of my fellow citizens.

The government won't have to hunt us down, our friends, neighbors and family will happily serve us up to them, once we're sufficiently demonized.

Today it's "the rich". Tomorrow it will be the selfish individualists, or whatever term of endearment they come up for us.

“I’ve thought a lot in the last two days about what the Founders had to go through. It has made me appreciate even more the sacrifices they made and the risks they took.”

A lot of them died, a lot of them were ruined. A lot of them lost big.

I’m guessing you saw Band of Brothers. My favorite line from the whole thing;

Speirs says, “The only hope you have is to accept the fact that you’re already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you’ll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function: without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All war depends upon it.”

Why would she vote for Romney if he stated (this time) that he is pro-life? I say if your mother is so adamant about protecting to murder offspring for convenience, she is a lost cause anyway. I would focus on trying to persuade her that fundamentally, abortion for convenience is evil, thus change the single issue mind.

How did all of those advantages work out in Viet Nam and Afghanistan?

My mom's family is German and of all remaining family, I am the lone conservative. I used to wonder how something like Hitler could have risen up from people who looked like all my mom's side of the family and now I finally do understand.

It is an odd sort of quiet terror to not be able to figure out how to change their minds, so I have finally given up on that.

Instead, I'm taking the computer virus/worm infection approach and I try to open up enough space to plant a kernel or two of fact enough for cognitive dissonance to take effect and then walk away.

No argument. No fighting. Humor or soft ridicule or emotionless matter of fact, all very short, no speeches, and quit. No more beating up anyone. Instead, be a resource, not a sparing partner, that's my new approach.

These people need education and it's hard to get them to lower their shields enough for them to see that.

Once that's accomplished, it's all about selling and you already have the best products! Learn how to sell.

My Condolences on your family voting for Obama.

For the life of me I cannot understand Obama voters, unless they are mentally ill or masochists.

What is being set up is Agenda 21 and the New World Order. Obama and the dems and with the help of some dolt repubs, it is in the works.

People like your family have no clue what is really in store for them. Mainly because they simply do not know better.

I feel very bad for people with kids now. Their kids are screwed and many don’t even know how screwed their kids will be.

For we that are older, we are glad we are old and won’t have to face a world of no freedom.

I really am upset that the bad guys always win. Why is that? Are the good guys just too ball-less to do anything? Do they lack the fortitude to stop this?

Also you would be surprised how the rank and file Brownshirts were not exactly productive Eastern European citizens before they were given jobs in which the aphrodisiac was control over those who they hated and admonished. All it takes is easy motivation, say, like when there is a glitch in monthly welfare payments that cause an uprising by those who you say are too lazy to act. I don't think you understand at all because those “lazy” individuals sure become motivated when their needs and wants are threatened or more rewards are offered for the taking.

I’m sorry. My SIL is an 0bot.

She stayed away from politics. She knows we live in different countries now.

As for those who think differently enough to not understand, they only WILL understand when the chit is at their doors. It’s on their shoulders now, not ours. We can fade into the background, for as long as we can.

Last year, I worked on a project with an outright Marxist. He tried to convince me of the righteousness of his ways. In reality, he’s a rather singular anarchist who enjoys his independence and is caught in eternal teenage rebellion. Fortunately, his wife has earned money steadily, so he’s OK.

That’s how I see many of the koolaiders: caught in terminal adolescent rebellion. Someday, you get brought up hard by something. Their days will come.

The thought that my two sons (10 and 8) will suffer the hatred these people have fomented is what causes me to lose sleep and feel rage towards a group of people that i never imagined possible. I couldn’t go to church last week because all the people there my age are members of the new socialism.

I honestly don’t know how this country can be saved and the fears i have for my sons’ futures are virtually debilitating.
