As U.S. authorities continue a long legal battle to deport a former Nazi concentration camp guard, it’s not clear what will happen next if they prevail.
Anton Geiser, now 88, has been living in a small western Pennsylvania town for more than 50 years. He didn’t even tell his family about the Nazi service until 2004, when the Justice Department began legal proceedings.
Geiser’s lawyer will be appealing a deportation order next week, before the Board of Immigration Appeals in Falls Church, Va.

1945 was 67 years ago, which would have made this guy 21 at war’s end. Going after the officers and politicians who ran things, that’s great. Problem is, they’ve all died of old age by now. This guy was just a draftee.
If Susan Rice or Lurch don’t work out for Sec. of State, Bathhouse Barry can nominate this guy.
Well at 88 the guy will be dying soon and he will burn in Hell for a long time.
He’s an old dude—soon he will face a higher judge greater than any on this earthly sphere. What has he been doing the last 60 years?
I didn’t think one was drafted into the SS.

I did not approve of going after Demjanjuk, because of his extenuating circumstances......He was a dead man if he went back to Russia, and he was a dead man if he didn’t cooperate with the Germans. And most of the evidence against him came from the Soviets, like they would never make stuff up.
The Germans were anxious to nail Demjanjuk, just so they could go “See, it wasn’t only Germans that participated in the Holocaust.”

What kinda choices did he have? None! But he probably shouldn’t have been granted citizenship.
Wrong, I had a cousin who was drafted into the SS at 16 years of age and shipped to Stalingrad. Escaped back to Germany one step ahead of the Russians. FWIW
I had a great-uncle who was almost captured by the Russians. American infantryman, he was among the first Americans to reach Berlin. He was souvenir hunting in the vicinity of Hitler’s bunker (I don’t recall the back story on how or why he was there and alone) when a Russian patrol caught up with him. He said they had a couple machine guns trained on him, had his hands up and kept motioning for him to come to them. Said he’d have rather been shot in the back than caught by the Russians so he turned, walked slowly around the corner, and once out of sight ran like an olympian.
That would present two problems. The first would be the Left's opposition to prosecuting anybody for being a Communist. The second would be that at least some of them would be Jewish.
I read a book about the American war prisoners in Japan, when Japan surrendered they were stuck in their prison camps but they were no longer prisoners. The first thing they did was hang the mean, hateful guard but for the most part they felt that the rest of the guards were just doing their duty.

The guy was 17 when he was forced to join. Doesn’t make sense to hound him anymore.
Probably the same thing as John Demjanjuk, who has fought denaturalization and deportation since 1977. The United States extradited Demjanjuk to Israel, where he was convicted in 1988 of being "Ivan the Terrible" and sentenced to death. The Israeli Supreme Court reversed the conviction after evidence surfaced that another man was "Ivan the Terrible."
The U.S. government stripped Demjanjuk of citizenship and ordered him deported in 2005 for having served as a Nazi prison camp guard in Poland and Germany.
These men were victims of war too and their only alleged crimes were following the orders of their superiors.
As a side note, one could also argue their case by comparing their actions to the Haditha 7, which almost everyone here would likely support their innocence.
It's time to let it go and leave these individuals alone with their own consciences and let them die in peace.........

Why not? Like it or not, this country is filled with elderly Germans who were soldiers during WW-II. And I can point you to the German American Cultural Center in Detroit and its members as proof........

There were no SS units in the Battle of Stalingrad, or in the failed relief offensive, FWIW.

I could see if this guy was an officer or senior enlisted giving orders to kill; I could see if he was tossing civilians into an oven or gunning them down.....but walking a perimeter? Having not been attributed to killing anyone?
I suppose we should imprison and then deport all of the U.S. military members that stood guard and perimeter security at Abu Gharib? I thought not. Nor would I agree to it.
Meanwhile unemployed Jose Drunkez is careening a pickup truck through a populated area sending his pesos back home to mehico and using every handout system known to man, from free emergency room visits to borrowed SSNs to take out mortgages and other loans.....all the while helping to transport illegal narcotics into the U.S. and assist in the murder of U.S. citizens all for his Vetas hermanos.

Let's start with the My Lai Massacre shall we? William Calley was convicted for killing 22 villagers but only served 3 1/2 years under house arrest. The rest of the soldiers under him who were also involved in this rape and murder rampage were let go........
Shall we revisit this crime, pursue and prosecute the rest of the soldiers as the US is doing to these German prison guards? Maybe even retry Calley and give him the life sentence he deserved?
In your perfect world of warfare, why should these guys who actually participated in rape and murder get a pass when mere prison guards are being hunted down and deported???
I have a uncomfortable feeling that someday we will be tracking the Obama seed.. When everything is finally uncovered about this fraud, we will be studying how our highest levels of our Government and the entire Intelligence Network allowed this happen..
the rules in force did stipulate that former Totenkopf were ineligible for entry in the US. if in fact he was a member
and did enter under a falsified statement, then there is a case to revoke his status. If he was an angel of mercy rather than an angel of death, perhaps a survivor will vouch for that. If not I shed no tear for at the time guards of all ages were gleefully participating in the holocaust and he is lucky to have escaped justice for so long.
I think you missed the part in the article where it referenced other draftees that were forced to be guards/escorts.
Geiser says he was forced to join the SS at the age of 17, in 1942, and that he never killed anyone. And while he served as a guard at the Sachsenhausen and Buchenwald concentration camps, he didn’t serve at so-called death camps, such as Treblinka and Auschwitz-Birkenau, which existed only to exterminate people.
The legal question is "about when people are dragged into assisting the persecutions involuntarily," Roe said, referring to an asylum case involving an Eritrean man who said he was forced to guard prisoners in Ethiopia. In that case the Supreme Court ordered immigration authorities to consider whether people who were part of persecutions did so involuntarily.
Geiser told prosecutors he was ashamed of his work as a camp guard. "I was not proud where I served and I didn’t like it then and I didn’t like it now."

i don’t believe that it matters to the dept of state whether one was forced or not, and i take these statements of regret
in the same way as i would take the other protestations that
“we were only following orders” and “we didn’t know about the
exterminations”.

You need to step back from your keyboard, and take a deep breadth! You’re completely misrepresenting/misunderstanding my comments. Did you read the article? I did. Twice. That’s why I’m aware of the court rulings. Where did I say I agreed with them? I only said that, according to the rulings, he should have been denied citizenship. Court rulings,,,, not mine! I disagree with a lot of court rulings!
Are there atrocities committed during wartime? Of course. Did this guy do anything besides trudge around the perimeter fence in the snow? Both sides agree he did not! Did he have any choice in the matter? He did not! Both Germany and Austria are not even investigating him.
Look at the John Demjanjuk(sp?) case. The Israeli Supreme Court realized they had no evidence against him, and released him. And JD’s case was even stronger, as far as his circumstances were concerned. He was a captured Russian soldier, forced to be an SS guard. His only choices were do it, or die, as so many other captured Russians ended up. And now he’s being charged with thousands of murders?

Moral relativism doesn’t work where genocide is concerned unless you agree with Stalin or Lenin who (to paraphrase) claimed that the death of 1 person is a tragedy but the death of millions a statistic.

I don't know what satisfaction people get out of hounding an 88 year old man for what happened in the middle of the worst war in history 65 odd years ago--I hope it makes some of you happy, to see this guy badgered and harassed at the end of his life, like Demjanjuk was, for the crime of patrolling the outside wire.

The mass murder you speak of would be what was called ‘’The Great Terror’’ was 1936-39. We weren’t allies of Russia at that time.
The mass murders continued while we were allies in WW2, and after WW2. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn wrote about some of it in The Gulag Archipelago.
And then there are the tens of millions murdered by our current business partners, the Chinese Communists.

The alliance was the worst marriage of convenience ever. As to Stalins bloodlust, WW2 interrupted it. What should we have done, attempted to stop it somehow? Patton wanted to nuke the Russians. Politics makes for strange bed fellows.
