Have you noticed that it has become trendy to bash preppers? For a long time the prepper movement was ignored, but now it has become so large that it is getting very difficult for the mainstream media to pretend that it is not there. In fact, it has been estimated that there are now approximately 3 million preppers in the United States alone. So now the mainstream media has decided that mocking the movement is the best strategy, and lots of “critics” and “skeptics” out there have picked up on this trend. Instead of addressing the very real issues that have caused millions of Americans to prepare for the worst, those criticizing the prepper movement attempt to put the focus on individual personalities. They try to find the strangest nutjobs they possibly can and then hold them up as “typical preppers”. The goal is to portray preppers as tinfoil hat wearing freaks that need to be locked up in the loony bin for their own personal safety and for the good of society. The criticism of preppers has really ramped up in recent months, and it will likely get even worse in 2013. The establishment does not like any movement that is outside of their control, and the prepper movement is definitely not under their control.

We are hated because we are an ongoing rebuke to the unprepared. By our presence and our activities, we frighten the complacent, reminding them of things they’d rather not think about. They want to drift along in contentment, certain that nothing bad will ever happen to them, or that if it does, government will take care of them. By our activity, we prod them and they have to fight back fears that we might be right—Doomsday/Armageddon/hurricanes/tornadoes/floods/fire/famine/insurrection/disease might actually happen.

You’d think Hurricane Sandy would have woken a significant percentage of the population up, but no. The percentage of people who I describe as unreachable is much higher than I ever wanted to admit. It’s scary because the unreachables make it possible for the gov’t to whatever they please. There’s no lie these people aren’t willing to swallow hook, line, sinker, rod and reel.

I work with about 400 horse & buggy Amish & Mennonite families in the area. They are all preppers. Have always been.
I think the biggest effect of Sandy is more support for whatever east coast libs think will fix “globull warming”.
I saw a YT vid made by a college girl where she was driving thru the flood zone and she says “we have to stop global warming, we learned in high school this was going to happen”.

If any prepper is disparaged, they should just point out that if they are radical the US Government must be crazy, because they have all kinds of preps - their underground bunkers and doomsday continuity of Government plans not to mention all the Urban Disaster Military Law Practice going on.
Also, as a believer in the US Government it is every citizen's duty to follow all the FEMA/Red Cross guidelines doncha know(tongue in cheek).
It is neither stupid nor crazy to buy items on sale to stock up on foods you use all the time - that's called wise money management and people who don't are either stupid, apathetic, too busy with their egocentric lives, or have so much money they don't care.
People who don't prep are selfish, and not concerned with their community. Every one who preps is one less person that the community will have to support. They will be so well prepared, that they will have to time and resources to help others in the community when disater strikes.
They won't need to be rescued - they will be prepared to do the rescuing..

Preppers follow the principle of subsidiarity, not communitarianism. We take care of ourselves our families and friends in that order. The Left hates self sufficiency and seeks to destroy self interest, the family, and the social and religious organizations that arise out of individuals exercising their free choice of association. The Left promotes communitarianism which is just another form of statism and totalitarianism that views people as masses to be controlled by an omnipotent central government.
WHO IS THE MOST PREPARED GROUP (PREPPERS) IN THIS COUNTRY?
Do you remember, or did you know, “survivalists” are on a list Homeland Security suggests could be possible domestic terrorists? But, on their website, they want people to store three days of food and water. If you store more than that, at what point are you suspect as maybe being a domestic terrorist? Is it three days is good, but four puts you in the possible terrorist group? You and I store way more than three days and that’s good for Homeland Security because if an emergency happened, FEMA, that is a part of Homeland Security, wouldn’t have to help us – their MREs, bottled water, etc., could go to others as we wouldn’t need their help.
I think all who read here want to be prepared for whatever happens, nature or man made events, so we can protect ourselves from hunger, thirst, illness, and attack from bad guys if a disaster happens.
There is one group that has more protection, the best underground bunker in the country, more food, more water, and more medical help than any other in the country. There is even a surgical suite with a surgeon available. This group is so well prepared, I wonder if they are on the suspect list Homeland Security has.
We would all like to have that wonderful bunker guaranteed to keep us safe and well fed and healthy. Who would have that much money to build that? You and I did. We paid for it.
There is a tunnel under the White House that leads across the street and down the street some and ends in a large bunker. There are bedrooms, food for a very long time, water is the same, and a surgeon would be there to operate in the surgical suite if necessary. The President’s family would be protected, as would all on the “who would be in line to be president if the President couldn’t act anymore.”
The Vice President and family would be there and the Speaker of the House and family would be there. I don’t know if others down the line in succession would be there. I don’t know how many members of congress would be there. Don’t know if the Supreme Court would be there. There may be a separate bunker for congress, I don’t know.
The government thinks these people should be saved. Where are the bunkers to save the citizens? Well, citizens, meaning you and me, aren’t that important. Say what? I’m as important as the President in my world and so are you in your world.
Yes, we paid for that bunker and everything in it. And, we took our personal money and made preps for ourselves. We did just as the government has done, provided a safe place for us with water and food and other lifesaving preps.
So, continue to prepare, and if someone says you are nuts for doing that, tell them the government is the biggest prepper in the country so it must be okay for its citizens to prepare.

That is precisely correct.
Additionally, they know that in a catastrophic, SHTF situation, their Democrat politicians will be incapable of confiscating "free stuff" from preppers to hand over to them, the moocher base of the Democrat party, in exchange for votes the way they do normally.
They'll be SOOL and they know it.
Also see this as a setup to brand the ones that did not fall for the dependency trap. Those are the ones the communists purge first because they fear the truth. They can kill off the preppers handing out their “hoard” to the sheeple till its gone and play hero, as they kill off those who would naturally be the leaders of the counter insurrection.
When it is all over the sheeple still starve, but now their leaders are gone and they are easy prey. With this prepper propaganda, they feed the lazy with the idea if you know where someone is surviving well, tell us and we will give his stash to you.
That way the weak turn in and help pull down the strong, and society is destroyed quicker. Morality is the enemy of Socialism, and only those prepared can fight back.

Was drinking with a friend at a local tavern when a group of university students stopped in. They though they were cool as they were swallowing gold fish.
My buddy took one and told them they were doing it wrong. He chewed it up and spit out the tail. Thought they were going to puke. By the way, goldfish are really bitter when you chew them up whole.

There is such a large gap between those who live the life and everyone else. It is hardly worth the effort to try and educate the wanna be preppers. As far as the critics I won't bother giving them the time of day. On the other hand if someone shows a true interest in developing the necessary skills, I will go out of my way to share my experiences and help them along. I know it is a good investment.
Northern WI and UP are prime rural redoubt locations for SHTF, IMO. It’s far enough away from Milwaukee, Madison, and Twin cities. There’s plenty of water, fishing, hunting, timber. Winters are very tough, but at least that makes you a harder target. Growing crops would be a bit of a challenge, but I’d imagine that some of you have greenhouses.
