10 fascinating facts about cats

People love their pets. Be it a cat, dog, hamster or goldfish, most U.S. residents have some kind of non-humanoid companion sharing their home. According to a survey by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA), however, cats win hands down when it comes to the sheer numbers that reside in American abodes.

The facts about cats confirm there are over 73 million in houses throughout the country, as opposed to 68 million dogs. Although many dog owners would disagree, that means cats are the preferred pets among the four-legged furry variety.

Ken Hubbard is an antiques dealer with the company 2wice As Nice in Wheat Ridge, Colo., a suburb of Denver. He’s also the owner of two black American shorthairs, Lace and Bear.

“Cats can be fun, intuitive and loving. But they can also have an evil side,” Hubbard chuckles. “They have their routines and they can be very demanding. Mine will torment me in the morning until they get me out of bed, with lots of stalking around the room and covers and a lot of meowing.”

If you’re a cat lover you’ve certainly experienced both sides of the coin. For your reading pleasure, we’ve pulled together a handful of interesting facts about cats.

Fascinating Fact #11: Cats eat trolls.

Not before playing with them for a while, tossing them in the air, batting them around with their paws, etc, etc :)

Malcolm comes into the bedroom and starts yowling.

I stumble out of bed and ask what’s the trouble.. house on fire?
Coyote in the yard? Litterbox suddenly unacceptable?

Stumbling further, I ask him to show me the trouble.

He leads me into the kitchen and hops onto the island.

“I’d like some treats, please.”

Woo and yay.

We have one who will never drink out of the water dish directly, she will wet her paw and lick it.
She has been that way since a kitten.
Heard that was not too uncommon with some cats.

My cat does nothing........she's just there.

I got one of those too...
Doesn't do anything....
Hates to be touched, hates to be held, couldn't care less about the dog,
doesn't kill mice, or flies or ants...

she's just...There.

Cat’s eyes have difficulty seeing objects that are motionless. She might be doing that because she can’t see the surface and is afraid she’ll accidentally dunk herself.

"Preferred pet"? More households own dogs than cats.

If cats are the 'preferred' pet, then it's because of Eleanor Abernathy Syndrome. Except for Tax-chick. In her case it's because she's brilliant and practically perfect in every way.

28% of dog owners own more than one dog. 52% of cat owners own more than one cat, plus their share of the 60,000,000 stray and feral cats.

For the record, my family owns two dogs. My youngest daughter, still at home and still in high school, owns two cats. And she neglected to clean the litter box before heading off to working the closing shift at Chick-fil-A.
