One of his films drew the following review: “Another loser from Winner.”

I remember the “Death Wish” films.

Surprisingly entertaining despite obviously being low budget movies.

"entertaining"

When I first saw it in a movie theater back in the seventies, people in the audience actually cheered when Charlie started blasting the bad guys.

Very sad news.

He took a funny looking little guy from here in the Pennsylvania Coal Fields and made him an International Superstar.

We need another Death Wish movie today more than ever.

The Death Wish films, or at least the first one, which is all I’ve seen, contributed to a really bad misuse of the term “vigilante.”

The term means a group that gets together and rounds up “criminals” and executes or otherwise punishes them extra-judicially.

Bronson’s character in the movie does no such thing. He just puts himself out there as a target and kills those who attack him. I don’t what you should call such a person, other than nuts, but he’s not a vigilante. There is absolutely no question about the guilt of those he guns down, as its during the commission of the crime.
