When you fight the law, the law usually wins.

A couple was arrested after their argument over who was the greatest guitarist of all time became so heated that Motel 6 staff was forced to call the Brook Park police.

The boyfriend was screaming on behalf of Slash, lead guitarist for Guns and Roses. The girlfriend was jumping for Eddie Van Halen, namesake of ’80s rockers Van Halen.

All great guitarists will be on display from fans here.

I’d like to suggest the ability to put the sounds together with layers of complexity takes another talent altogether.

My vote is for, Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew.

My vote is for, Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew.

I think the fact that Zappa and Fripp chose Belew to be in their bands speaks volumes.

Best blues: BB King, Eric Clapton

IMHO the Reverend Willie G beats them both.

I agree with your list.

I would add.

Best technician: Robert Fripp
Best electronic experiments: Adrian Belew

And, I would put Belew as the most underrated.

Rhoades - darn shame he died so young.

Yngwie - if you’ve heard one Malmsteen solo, you’ve pretty much heard them all.

Hammett - good player; great combination of technique and soul. Too bad his drummer’s such a twit...

I think Metheny has him beat in that department

Iommi, along with Jimmy Page, is the master of the heavy riff. I also have a lot of respect for him because he plays with prosthetic fingertips on his fretting hand.

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails also found Belew.

I think Pat read Belew’s book.

“Wait, what was the right answer? Segovia?”

Too broad a question to answer. Hell, Charo was (or I suppose is)one hell of a Flamenco player and she's been honored for it too. I'd say that they were arguing over greatest ROCK guitarist, in which case they are BOTH wrong in not stating Jimmy Hendrix.

I lean toward Stevie Ray Vaughan as being my favorite, but as a Tennessean, I’ll be danged if I let this thread go any further without mentioning Chet Atkins.

I’ll give all posters a pass on this grave insult to Chet, as the discussion was originally in regards to Rock & Roll guitarists... ;)
