Chicago Public Schools’ plans to close under-enrolled schools to save money could lead to lawsuits. An analysis of the 129 schools that CPS could close finds that African Americans will bear a large burden of the closures.

The Sun-Times report found 117 of the 129 schools that could close are made up of a majority African-American students. Nine of the schools are majority Hispanic.

In comparison, CPS, as a whole, is 41.6 percent African American, 44 percent Hispanic and 8 percent white.

Meanwhile, the commission reviewing the district’s plan is siding with CPS in its final report. However, while CPS is eyeing 129 schools, the commission says CPS has the capacity to consolidate 80 schools. The commission is also calling on district officials to consider other factors in deciding which schools to close. …

What are the demographics for the enrollment all across the district? Are there schools in the Chicago Public Schools system that are majority caucasian/asian? I doubt it. The enrollment is probably majority black/Hispanic throughout.. just my guess, anyway.

Why would it hurt them? Most of them are out in the hood working at being baby daddies, dealing, and shooting at each other anyway. The few with intelligence of any kind might be screwed by the closings but wouldn’t be if the kenyan dictator had signed off on charter schools/vouchers.

The country might be a lot better off if Chicago and Detroit both fell into a giant sinkhole that could be filled with sand for a clean start.

I would amend the sinkhole statement. To properly expunge either of those two crapholes would involve kerosene and a lot of stirring while burning; the proper way to take care of overfilled outhouse holes.

Response: It is time to ask the questions: Should we care? Blacks appear not to learn their school lessons even when school is in session. Are blacks capable of academic learning? Should we not focus our attention and funds upon other groups demonstrating a capability of learning their lessons?

According to the Chicago Police blog that I read, these schools, located in the black neighborhoods of the south and west side of Chicago, have low enrollments of kids because the blacks are moving out of the south and west sides of Chicago..some of them who have brains and want to live, are bailing of of these ghetto war zones. So the Chicago Teacher's Union is complaining, ‘cause then some of their dues-paying teacher's in these areas will wind up without jobs. And so the union calls it “racist”...”you're picking on poor black kids and denying them their education,” ignoring the very fact that it's not practical, not financially feasible to keep open a school that has low enrollment. So, it's the same old bs from the same old mouths of the same old “left.”

Give those students who want to learn school choice vouchers. Then consolidate the schools. Then hire Joe Clark.

An example: Fernwood Elementary: 335 students, average of 13 students per teacher, with 8 administrative staff, 2 counselors, etc. Parents are up in arms over plans to close this school that is designed to accommodate 800+ students.

Umm, ok, your facilities are falling apart, you don’t have enough students, you’ve got an overburden of staff. BUT, I’ve got the solution for you! Let the district close the school, rent it from the district, establish your own school, and pay for it!

Inthe article it says the general CPS demographic is primarily black and hispanic and eight percent white.

So by that statistic closing any school would affect these minority students. Although really in an area where the percentage of white is so small, shouldn’t they be considered the minority students?

Sorry, people outside of Jersey might not know who Joe Clark is. Joe Clark was the principal at Eastside High School in Patterson NJ. He took no crap, installed discipline in his students and turned the school around from being a riddled with crime to significantly raising test scores.

The movie Lean On Me was about Clark. With Morgan Freeman playing Clark, the movie was more about activism then what he really did.

I do recall reading about him. I wish that someone like him would stand up and do the right thing in the schools of Chicago. But “the Mare, Rahm Emanuel,” won't allow the police to do their jobs and stop the thugging and the violence in the schools...Rahm will not go against the parent/s of these thugs and lose their votes. Rahm’s voting base is in the black neighborhoods of the south and west sides of Chicago. Though the Chicago Teacher's Union is socialist based, the head of the union does butt heads with rahm, but it seems that the bottom line is if you teach in a Chicago school, you keep your mouth shut, do your job..do what your’re told and go along to get along. For all the whining by Rahm Emanuel about the killings, thugging and violence in Chicago and, in particular the schools, it's just for show and it means nothing..just ask the Chicago cops whose hands are tied at every turn. It is all for the damn vote, and Rahm Emanuel means to keep it that way. There will be no hero's allowed in the Chicago Public Schools, though I'm sure there are some principals who are making some effort, but without the support of Rahm Emanuel, and so the schools continue to fail...by design. they continue to fail. I might add that the Chicago aldermen on the south and west sides of Chicago are socialist and/or corrupt...the store front “revruns” are nothing more than money laundering sources for the gangs, and they get their cut and turn their backs on their flock. But, of course, they along with Rahm Emanuel are constantly demanding more money for the schools, it's “for the children,” you know. But the money never makes it to the schools and the “children.” It goes to payoffs and pet projects of Emanuel, and it also greases the palms of certain aldermen. socilialist thieves, liars and all corrupt...by design, and for as long as I can remember. Chicago isn't called Shitcago for nothing.
