Is Andy Kaufman still alive? Or dead? Or who knows? And has anyone seen Elvis lately?

Jeb Stuart died on this day in 1864...and is still dead.

At least the county seat in the county he was born in (Patrick County, Virginia) was renamed in his honor.

Don’t you fret none, they’ll be purging the name of that racist cracker for the county seat and replacing it with that of Eric Holder or some other paragon of Communist virtue.

Maybe not.

2004 election: Bush 5507, Kerry 2572
2008 election: McCain 5491, Obama 2879
2012 election: Romney 5622, Obama 2417

Percentagewise, in 2012 that was 68.2% for Romney, 29.3% for Obama, plus 1.9% for Virgil Goode, 0.5% for Gary Johnson, and 0.1% for another candidate (J. Stein).

Most of the surrounding counties had percentages for Romney near or above 60%. That's Blue Ridge country, hills and hollows, where there weren't many slaves before the War.

They could go back to the former name, Taylorsville, honoring an early settler (but they would need to see if Taylor was a slaveholder). They could try to say that the name Stuart honors Jeb’s father, who served one term in Congress as a Democrat (1837-39).

Yeah, I know, he was with Elvis.
All I know is if his daughter Lisa Marie's marriage to Michael Jackson and her involvement in scientology didn't bring the King back from the dead, then bet the ranch on it, he's dead.

LOL I visited Graceland last year.

I guess Elvis’ original grave in a cemetery was problematic because fans were chipping off pieces of the grave marker as souveniers.

Now the old guy is planted at Graceland, right next to the swimming pool.

Elvis was only in the cemetery for a few months. He was moved to Graceland in ‘77. You can see Spinal Tap visiting his grave at Graceland in the movie.

I understand the motivation, it just looks a bit weird with this big grave marker next to the pool.
