For the Photoshoppers here: Could these pics be combined into one, the vintage on the left and the modern on the right? It could be captioned something like, “Vintage picture of WWII GI carrying a jackass on his back, modern picture of the same thing.”

I could be wrong, but the helmets don’t look like U.S. issue. Reminds me of Japanese helmets.

The picture is old ... but the soldier’s feature's look Caucasian ... to me at least.

The helmet also caught my eye. When the Allies invaded Europe
in ‘44 the French contingent was supplied by the US including
helmets, I believe.

Except the Chinese Nationalist issue helmet was actually the M1935 German Stahlhelm....

Same here. The soldier on the right has the collars worn outside the jacket like Japanese officers wore their shirts.
