Just in general...if you travel to Sweden, Norway, or Finland....you tend to note that people drink more. It might be mostly beer....but they all drink more on average.

“According to the study, every second male drowning victim has alcohol in his body, rising to 65 percent among those in the 45-64 age group.”
Aren’t alcohol and fishing complimentary sports?

Somebody really... needed a study... for this?
*head explodes*
Sorry to bother you out in Oz with this, but jeez... have you thought about staying there? I’d suggest it and I’ve never been there. If you can handle the heat and don’t mind not carrying, stay, because we have too many stupid people.

Most people who are bitten by snakes have been drinking.
Most people who ________________ have been drinking.
Drinking makes people stupid.... that’s all you really need to know.

This is exactly why I never shower when I’ve been drinking.

"a guess is that men are more inclined to take risks"
That is the most likely conclusion. Women who take the same risks as men are generally called crazy. I suppose about the same percentage of crazy women take the same risks as crazy men. Unless they're drunk, that is. But even considering that, I'll bet drunk crazy women don't act nearly as bad as drunk crazy men. It's just the nature of the species.

The study considered 4,000 cases of drowning between 1997 and 2011 and, excluding confirmed cases of suicide, men account for 80 percent of fatalities. Same as in the United States.
From 1999 through 2010, 24,254 accidental adult males drownings in the US, compared to 5,708 accidental adult female drownings.
That's 81% men.

Here is another piece of earth shattering news, drunk men are more likely to find homely women attractive. And conversely sober women are more likely find drunk men are asses.

The thing this doesn't tell us, though, is how much more likely men are to be out on the water than women.
I have a gut feeling that at any given time, there are a LOT more men out on or in the water than there are women.

Can I get a grant for a follow-up study to prove that drunk men bump their heads more often? I’ll even volunteer as a test subject, for the sake of science.

A significant number of small craft drowning victims were taking a leak over the side and fell in, by all appearances....
Drinking makes that situation more likely to occur. (You rent beer, you don't buy it.)

I would wager most of those women (though not all) were out on the water with a man—who would pull them back in the boat if they fell overboard. Men will go out solo, and if they fall in while urinating may not be able to get back in the boat (especially if they do so under way).

Arent alcohol and fishing complimentary sports? Yes, but you can be darn sure those who drowned ate carrots within a year of
their drowning too. Something all of us should take seriously.
