Celebrity chef Paula Deen was today sacked from her job at the Food Network despite begging the public for forgiveness over her past use of racial slurs in a heavily-edited video apology.
A Food Network spokesman issued this statement today: 'Food Network will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month.' It came just hours after she released the 45-second video in which she says: 'I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong I have done. I want to learn and grow from this.
'Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable. I have made plenty of mistakes along the way but I beg you, my children, my fans, my team, my partners, I beg for your forgiveness. 'Please forgive me for the mistakes that I've made.'
The 66-year-old was due to appear on the Today show this morning to to answer questions from Matt Lauer about the racial slurs - but she pulled out just before the show started. Later that day she announced on her Twitter page that she would be releasing a video statement soon. After the initial video was released another, longer one was then posted on YouTube and was taken down soon after.

I just got that movie a few weeks ago. First comment my wife said just that, “No way could they make that again. Too many crybabies. No wonder minorities are on welfare, they just ain’t that tough. Can’t handle life.”
Alec also called his daughter a pig. I guess it’s ok to be coarse for some people, but not when you portray a grandmotherly Southern cook whose mouth butter wouldn’t melt in. It’s about the image I guess. I don’t know why I care about this, I don’t watch her show or like her phony personality, I just think she should have been forgiven. Now that she’s been mugged, maybe she’ll wake up and turn conservative.
First, I am in north Florida and you have never seen so many beautiful babies of mixed color being carried around by redneck grandparents. I swear.
But I remember hearing grandpa talk about mass hangings of “them” at the courthouse square. He was otherwise very decent man.
His son my Dad sent away inlaws in 70s,interracial marriage, not welcome on his land.
All those pretty babies though prove how far we have come.
Rule 1: NEVER apologize. They will do what they will do anyway, without regard to your apology. At least this way you exit with some dignity and self respect.
Good post. Historical reminder that the entire nation participated with slavery, regardless of how it started, or ended. It was an ugly time in history for the entire planet, although much of the planet still enslaves people and Democrats still keep blacks on the plantation with welfare. I think that liberal vs conservative is back to Democrats versus everyone else circa 1800, primarily cities versus rural.
I could care less about her politics. Her recipes were awful.

My uncle, RIP, used to always call his best friend, a woman he had known since the early 1950’s, “the little nigger girl”. She always referred to him as “that cracka boy I grew up with.” They were never romantically involved, both having married someone else, but they grew up together, worked together, and loved each other very much. The words were the dialect of their time, not insults.

True. But, when you choose to support the philosophy that places political correctness above common sense, and do so in a very public manner, you reap what you sow. Had it been a solid Conservative in that position, she would have been in the chorus screaming for blood. Liberals are generally hypocrites, this one got caught in the mousetrap.

Paula will still be required to bring out all her bed sheets and pillow cases to see if any have eye holes in them.

Well, this is the first I’ve known of her political persuasion. She and George Zimmerman are in the same boat....encountering the Obama treatment they voted for.
You’re right. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Moochelle could very well be lurking in the background of Paula Deen’s downfall. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
