So in my 22 years of filing taxes, just got my audit letter from 2011, I owe $500. Not a lot, but considering I make less than $30,000 grand a year since the financial collapse... I find it odd that with standard children deductions I got audited.
Why would the IRS target someone who made less than $15,000 for that year? Seriously???
Make more now, but not that year. But they bother to audit me?
I got audited when I was 19 and in a state college, putting myself thru school by working at Burger King. I made about 10K a year. Some IRS lady came to my crappy apartment. (sounds like a penthouse letter, it was a small midwestern college!)
BTW, my point was why was a person who made $15k audited?
30,000 grand is a lot of money. Like 30 million. Why are you surprised?
DOH! Guilty as charged.
Ok, will stop whining about my $500...
Wow.
YES!!! I got my 1099, but the business went bankrupt. Then the tax place decided that I made less than I made. As I said, I can try and get records of payments made (which sometimes was in cash, and gave a receipt for... which has mysteriously disappeared... and that’s where the issue is I believe) or just pay it.
I moved out of state since then (two years ago) and God only knows where those receipts are.
My fault, I admit it. But dang.
By “tax place”, I mean the accounting firm that worked for the business I worked for. Seems they found a way to include less income on the bet that I couldn’t find my receipts.
They bet right.
you can imagine it was ‘brown trousers time’ when i read that! I had no idea what was going on because we kept our own finances...and i didn’t even inherit that particular fund - the nephews got it;-)
A. You’re one of the ‘little’ guys, easy to push around and scare.
B. Not rich enough to afford a lawyer.
C. You are on FB and have said bad things about ali bama.
D. Some IRS dork added you to all the other little guys on his list
so he could go home early.
E. You belong to the TP.
F. All the above.
That was thenthis is now.
Things that cause you migraines!
“Even the IRS didnt believe the b*tch got that much.”
That made my day. Bitch caused me to have to clean the monitor
“I just realized I am gulaging in place...”
Stealing that one
my idiot brother said that once- we were arguing about government and I asked him how much taxes he paid and the moron said “I didn’t -I got a refund”
Do you agree that you owe? How did you prepare your returns for the year in question?
I do not think I owe, but I do not have receipts to prove otherwise. I billed a small business, he sometimes paid me in cash. The cash payments are what is missing and I admit it is my fault for keeping those receipts.
So, technically I owe. I just question why a peon was audited?
We got letters and had an ongoing correspondence with the IRS last year, for 2010. The first letter said we owed something north of $250,000 more in taxes. I kid you not. When all was said and done (many months and many more grey hairs later), they sent us a refund of over $700. The worst part was they would seem to take months to reply to each step, and I bet we got six different letters telling us we would be getting a refund, before it actually came.
Ok, clarification...
I “have” them, but they are in storage 500 miles away. So to go get them will cost me gas, wear and tear on car, time away from working, etc...
The question is that should I spend the money to save the money or will I owe less than the cost to fight it.
To be honest, if it’s within $200, I won’t bother.
$250,000???
Wow. Again, that $500 seems puny.
