The best Hacker/AI book ever (never made into a movie) was “The Adolescence of P1.”

The BOOK “Colossus” was pretty good too — the movie didn’t even come close to the book.

I imagine these days your home computer could run rings around WOPR in a test of computing power.

“Sir, these lights are blinking out of sequence.”

“Well, make them blink in sequence.”

I assume from this it does:

"Fischer explained that while the computer is stock, "dummy boards and cables were provided to give the illusion of greater computing power and resources to boost the screen effect." Fischer said he never heard a single complaint that something wasn't correct. "I took great pains to ensure that all props offered from my end met the credibilities that the script called for," he said."

I purloined more free phone calls with a modified pocket dialer from Radio Shack than the average person ever paid for.

Ever read "Hackers - Heroes of the Computer Revolution" by Stephen Levy?

It's a great history of who did what, going back to the 50's.

Here's the first 2 chapters in PDF

(Skip ahead a few pages to get past all the BS before chapter 1 starts.)
