Feds tell Web firms to turn over user account passwords

The U.S. government has demanded that major Internet companies divulge users' stored passwords, according to two industry sources familiar with these orders, which represent an escalation in surveillance techniques that has not previously been disclosed.

If the government is able to determine a person's password, which is typically stored in encrypted form, the credential could be used to log in to an account to peruse confidential correspondence or even impersonate the user. Obtaining it also would aid in deciphering encrypted devices in situations where passwords are reused.

Not only is this unconstitutional, but you know the gov’t can’t keep anything secret so China and Russia would have the keys within days.

The Postal Service takes photos of the front of every piece of mail and stores them in a database, which is accessible to both local and federal law enforcement agencies.

A vehicle from that era doesn’t have a black box.....another plus for vintage cars.

Pay phones? Good luck finding any. They have all but disappeared in my neck of the woods.

“Yeah, but they don’t read the contents. Yet.”

I wouldn’t put anything past this corrupt Administration.

Your reference to banking is related to my initial thought about the reach of this. Sounds like this move would put everyone’s bank accounts at the disposal of the government.

Yes, it seem that way, and many people will say that it is nothing but rumor, but rumor can be for the purpose of getting every one used to the idea and then when it becomes fact their battle is won.

So many things over the years have happened just that way.

I should look into virtual machines more.

VMs rock for many uses. encryption is one of them.

if they can do this there’s no way to prove what’s in your account was created by you. they can set you up for any crime they want and then storm your house gestapo swat style.

1. Set you up for a crime you did not do.
2.Empty your Bank Account
3.In short it is the ability to destroy you and imprison you.

George Orwell "1984" saw this coming. He warned us. We did not listen!

Had enough?

If this complicit Congress allows the central socialist government to get away with this then the government needs to be turned upside down, shaken and the little weasels rounded up and assigned a large rock pile to break up.

American Conservatives are at war with this evil regime.

Don’t forget what Bozo said in a recent speech: If you distrust or dislike your government then we’ll have trouble.
