The Internet Map
Visual.ly ^ | n/a | n/a

Posted on 07/28/2013 2:09:07 PM PDT by Teotwawki

Interactive map of the Internet illustrated as a galaxy, with planet's size reflecting the number of hits each site has.

TOPICS: Computers/Internet
KEYWORDS: internet; map
Click on the source URL to get to the map.

Placement, relative to other "planets" also indicates how frequently users jump from one site to the other. The stronger the link, the closer the proximity. Kinda cool really.

Anyone else find it hilarious that the Chinese sites are all in yellow and the Ruskie sites all in red?

I was going with “All US sites are in blue since red is being used for the Russians”.

I'm not 100% sure how this would work. What if lots of users go from site A to site B, but very few users go from site B to site A, for example?

Mmmm....not sure I buy that one. First, how can you place every site on the Web next to Google? And secondly, if there were a way to do so, how do you place them all near Google without that mandating that they also be near each other, when the degree of their linkage to one another might indicate that they should be on opposite sides of the graph?
