(Vanity) Coolest new show on TV- Naked and Afraid
Discovery Channel ^

Posted on 07/31/2013 1:42:27 PM PDT by Red in Blue PA

When I was channel surfing, I came across this show and it looked and sounded ridiculous. But once you give it a chance, it really draws you in.

Contestants (1 named mand and 1 naked woman as a team) are dropped off in a remote and harsh location and are given nothing except 1 item which they can bring along. They must surviive using nothing but those items and their cunning for 21 days.

Give it a chance. I am hooked.

Yeah, Nimrod referrs to the the great hunter/king but in recent history it is now commonly used to mean a dimwitted or stupid fellow.

Being Asthmatic I wouldn’t last a day without my rescue inhaler.

i would pick a military grade survival knife (with included utensils- sharpener, matches, string, needle)

I can make fire with nothing (its a good skill to learn and practice- it will surprise you how difficult it is at first)

watching the show where they were in the Louisiana swamp with snakes and alligators

thought for sure they'd be rescued by the duck dynasty bunch

Yes it’s a great show, and it also seems to be the only other thing on Discovery besides Fast and Loud.

I got hooked on it, too. About as realistic as you can get on a survival show.

I saw that episode, the guy who brought goggles was afraid to go in the water because of the sharks.

The teams that didn’t bring firestarters really struggled on the fire front. All of them knew of ways to make fire with just found items, but the setup is such that it’s going to be harder than you practiced. They always meet somewhere not the camp sight, so step one is find the/a campsite (pretty sure the LA team didn’t find the intended campsite the first time, which means hiking barefoot with no food or water for a couple of hours. So before they’re even to the point of thinking about fire they’re already tired, in pain, over heated or chilled (depending on environment), dehydrated and hungry. And now they have a few hours of daylight left and get to choose between shelter and fire, and fire is a lot of vigorous action. None of the teams that lacked the spring loaded flint got fire on the first day, most suffered until day 3, they tried but they failed.

It’s an interesting show, it’s basically caveman survival.

Recon Marines are on the same level as SEALs as far as training minus some of the more intense water parts.

minus some of ...

That there's the whole key isn't it?

Kinda like saying the only difference between a Marine and a Marine Corp. aviator is the flight training...........LOL!

They were on an island and he said it was to help him see the fish...

I bet your one of those hardasses who didn't care if Nemo got found.

most of the women seem better able to handle the stress of survival...

I agree. I was immediately taken by the fact that most of the men in these episodes, seem to be whiners. The women always seem to be more adept at meeting the challenges, and usually spend most of the show meeting the demands of the men - nothing to eat, private parts getting sun-burned, infected feet, etc., etc...

Most of the women, very laid-back and non-complaining.

Put ME out there with some of these young hotties and my priorities would be very different.

A compelling show nonetheless...

The nimrod with the goggles was afraid to go into the ocean to fish, so the woman took care of that task.

I caught part of one episode, and I think it was this one. The guy was an absoulute doofus. After about the 3rd day with nothing to eat, he's looking for food and runs across some kind of big snake, and runs away from it. I was thinking "What the hell is wrong with you? Kill that thing and eat it!"
