Went to the mail box and was aggressed by new neighbors Pit Bull (Freeper opinions requested)

Posted on 08/07/2013 6:37:18 PM PDT by RoosterRedux

I retired 10 years ago to take of elderly parents. Dad died peacefully last year and Mom is still kicking.

After spending the afternoon in the eye doc's office with Mom, came home and, after settling her down, went for the mail.

New neighbor has a Pit-Bull and today this dog was loose. As I went to the mail box, the dog ran over to the middle of the street (perhaps 15 feet away) and bared his teeth.

His owners were in the yard but did not call the dog. At the same time a UPS truck stop in front of their house, but the driver refused to get out of his truck.

Question is "what steps do I take as a good citizen?"

The next door neighbors inherited the house from the girl's grandmother. The girl's husband is a born again Christian...but he was previously in prison for drugs.

Pit Bull is young but large and aggressive.

Freeper opinions appreciated.

BTW, I have cats who lounge around in the front yard. If this dog kills my cats...I am apt to become upset. And an upset Freeper (armed to the teeth) is not a nice thing to behold.

Please don’t misunderstand, I totally agree with your assessment of your neighbors.

My point is that there is no legit reason to surrender to the brownshirt mentality of leftist-globalist “NGOs” like the (in)Humane Society, or any other like it.

We the people have to keep control of society by being on top of our own lives all of the time. We do not need them!

I think it’s horrible that the animal shelters are trying to get those pits into adoptive homes when so many are given up because they become aggressive. It’s like offering the public “toy” grenades along with some real ones - can’t tell the difference (Clint Eastwood: Do ya feel lucky, Punk?). IN New York, they animal shelters tried to place pits by calling them New Yorkies (deceiving the public). But that program had to halt because the “New Yorkies” started killing off the neighborhood pets. I feel the public is abused by official agencies misrepresenting these animals. I am so grateful that the OP called first and that the local agencies take the issue seriously.

.
Do you think that maybe they have an agenda?

They want control over all of our animals. What better way than causing as much chaos as possible?

You’re right. It’s probably not a good idea to offer uncooked bacon to dogs.

If I had to pick one of the two of you to have my back, who do you think it would be, a functional man, or a blithering crybaby?

You’re correct, I would not have your back.

I would let the pit bull chew you up and laugh.

I certainly agree with your point about not ceding power to the brownshirts.

But I face a more immediate problem.

My neighbors to the right have young children who play in the front yard within sight of said dog. I spoke to the young mother of those children today and she said the dog came into her yard last week and basically chased the children into the house.

My neighbor on the left is an elderly lady who putters around her yard.

I understand that the owner of the pit bull might believe his dog is a friendly family pet...but he has already shown signs of aggression.

I have to live here and don't want to get into a feud with my neighbors, but I worry about the worst case scenario.

There are safe “live traps” available, and usually can be borrowed from the County Animal Control offices.

Have a Heart makes a trap big enough to hold a wolf.

Animal Control mentioned that today.

Might have to go that route.

It’s just the irrational, visceral hatred evident in so many replies that causes me dismay.

The aggression evident in many replies results from the same factor that causes such behavior in dogs...fear.
Such behavior is more easily dealt with in dogs than people,
for as you say there is an irrational element to their behavior that is absent in canines.
It a psychotic reaction out of all proportion to reality.
They could know better but their emotions overwhelm their critical faculties.
You can see it manifested in their fixation on violent dog porn that elicits in them
a twisted sort of glee blended with delusions of moral superiority.
It is core to liberal reactions to many problems.
They are pathetic and deserving of both pity and scorn,
but like any fanatic, dangerous to a free society.

Hmm...my, my, you insulted my manhood. It’s easy to be a tough guy on the internet, isn’t it. I think you are in reality one of those bed-wetters from DU, always blaming the victim and looking to excuse evil.

I make my recommendations from personal experience. I had a new neighbor that liked to think she was rescuing dogs from the pound. In reality she was bringing home dogs she knew nothing about and were probably sent to the pound for their aggressive nature.

After I witnessed the first one attack my 5 year old daughter, I went to the owners and explained that I didn’t care if they had 50 dogs, it’s their right, so long as they don’t come on my property. I explained I could have a dog but chose not to for various reasons, and I shouldn’t have her dogs forced on me. I explained how they attacked my kid and she, like you, was more concerned about he dog than my child.

The first one , a mongrel, got the poison: the second, a nice sheep dog that spent it’s days scratching at my doors, got the cage and the third, a Rotwieller was a clean head-shot from the kitchen window.

I don’t regret any of it, in fact I’m proud that I took a proactive approach to protecting my two young daughters.

I more words with the neighbor and basically I told them to bring it. They moved.

So, the point of the story is that if I had anything to different, I wouldn’t have bothered complaining to them because people like that, and like you, are unreachable. You cry for a pit bull, when is put down after ripping out a kids throat.

If you wnat to get into more name calling, just email me, and we can arrange a time a place for a face-to -face, none of this anonymous stuff.

Mom and all on this thread...first, thx for your input.

Here's an update.

I went to see the neighbor to my right as soon as she came home tonight (she and her husband have the young children). She told me the pit bull across the street had already chased her children inside and she was afraid for them.

I spoke with my neighbors across the street (who live next to the pit bull) and they (two older gay guys) said the dog had been aggressive toward them and in fact told me the owner of the pit bull had told them that the bull had actually picked up the little boy living in the house to my right.

Apparently the pit bull is chained to a post in the back yard of its owner (violation of local ordinance) and, get this, its owner has just purchased 2 pit bull puppies (females) with which to bred said dog.

Next I will learn that Obama is involved and Al Sharpton is concerned that the subject pit bull is being profiled and discriminated against.;-)

With full neighborhood support, I will call Animal Control in the morning and get the ball rolling.

Pit bulls are not your usual neighborhood dogs.

They are domesticated great white sharks that sometimes degenerate to a feral state.

If you think this is no a dangerous matter, consider letting your children swim among them.
