Wasabi the cat should be dead, but miraculously she's back to purring and playing after falling 11 floors from her owner's apartment in Juneau, Alaska. Wasabi was chasing a mosquito around owner Stephanie Gustafson's apartment earlier this week when she chase the insect straight out the window. Ms Gustafson's mom watched the cat fall to the ground while she 'freaked out' and ran downstairs to see if Wasabi was OK.

You’re quite welcome. Always wanted to visit Alaska.
And my damn Squeek is just too damn lazy to even try to catch a cold.......
See, that was mistake Number One. You use anti-aircraft weaponry to kill Alaska mosquitoes.
DO it! I have a sister who still lives there. I want to visit, but at this point in my life, it’s not feasible. So I encourage YOU!
(Just bring back lots of piccies!)
Or alternatively, dead ones aren't brought to the vet, resulting in a biased sample.
Hmmm...gives me an idea...
That is addressed in the linke that I posted.
Another possible explanation for this phenomenon would be the fact that cats who die in falls are less likely to be brought to a veterinarian than injured cats, and thus many of the cats killed in falls from higher buildings are not reported in studies of the subject.[2] However, the study was specifically about the extent of injuries: Survival rates were not studied, leaving the possibility that longer falls do lead to a higher death rate, but that among the survivors, mildly injured cats are more likely to be brought to the veterinarian if they have survived a long fall rather than a short one.
Fair enough - I mentioned it because a lot of people who cite that study tend to miss that little caveat.
About twenty years ago, we got a kitten and when he was a month or two less than a year old, climbed a really high tree (over 100 ft.) and was up there for 5 or 6 hours. My wife called the fire department and when they showed up, they told us it was too high for their equipment.
While she was talking to the fireman, the cat leapt straight out and then did the flying squirrel thing. came to a landing on the driveway then walked over to us, because he was hungry and wanted to get fed.
There’s a great Family Guy ep about cats being dropped upside down. Let’s just say that Brian ends up with bruises.
That was quite a successful day for your cat. It got to scare the cr#p out of you, bring out the fire dept, perform for a stunned and appreciative audience, and then get a nice meal and some affection. Not bad....not bad at all.
Wow, I didn’t know Juneau had buildings that tall!
Why, I’ve seen cats jump off 11story buildings and catch a thermal and fly around for a couple of hours doing loops and barrel rolls. Or maybe that was an F-16.
“I didnt realize that Alaska had 11 story buildings.”
Yes, hubby and I were wondering about that too...why?
My poor brother’s poor kitty died after falling out his window, I forget how far it was, maybe 16 stories.
Very sad, miss you both Fritter and A.
An eleven-story fall? I didn’t know they made igloos that high.
A cat with landing skids. Is that an option you have when you order one?
One of ours launched from the roof. He’d gotten up there & realized he didn’t know how to get down, & started crying right above our bedroom window. Our bedroom window is one floor above the ground floor (daylight basement). We heard him crying & thought he was outside the back door (under the bedroom window). We got down there, & realized he was on the roof. He looked down at us & figured he’d been rescued...so he jumped. Happily there were no ill effects.
Silly cat!
Wasabi must have done one spectacular PLF on landing.
