D. J. R. Bruckner, a retired book and theater critic for The New York Times who was previously a nationally syndicated political columnist for The Los Angeles Times, died on Friday in Manhattan. He was 79.

How so? He sounds relatively harmless. Somebody who made Nixon’s enemy list forty years ago and hasn’t done much of anything at all since, but write book and play reviews. There are worse people in the world, aren’t there?
