Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto has created a beautiful, undeniably scary time-lapse map of the 2053 nuclear explosions which have taken place between 1945 and 1998.
http://youtu.be/9U8CZAKSsNA
Beginning with the Manhattan Projects Trinity test near Los Alamos and concluding with Pakistans nuclear tests in May of 1998. This leaves out North Koreas two alleged nuclear tests in this past decade (the legitimacy of both of which is not 100% clear).
Each nation gets a blip and a flashing dot on the map whenever they detonate a nuclear weapon, with a running tally kept on the top and bottom bars of the screen. Hashimoto, who began the project in 2003, says that he created it with the goal of showingthe fear and folly of nuclear weapons. It starts really slow if you want to see real action, skip ahead to 1962 or so but the buildup becomes overwhelming.
TOPICS: Science; Society
KEYWORDS: nuclear; nuclearexplosion; nukes; timelapse
A fascinating visualization, without regard to the creator's philosophy.

Klaus Fuchs,Ted Hall,Julius Rosenberg & Pals (they say that Ethel was probably innocent) decided that Uncle Joe needed the bomb.If was up to me I would have made each of them beg for death...constantly....for months. And the same goes for A.Q.Khan.

I wish I never played those games, so I could play them again for the first time.
Maybe if I wait a bit but with my old-man memory I forget what I did an hour ago not years ago.
I played them all on release.

Seems like the only way to win is not to play.
