In a study published in Brain, Behavior and Immunity, University of New South Wales researchers describe how lab rats rapidly began to show signs of serious memory decline after just six days on a sugar- and fat-laden diet of cakes, chips, and more. Specifically, the junk-food-eating rats had inflamed hippocampal regions, and they did poorly on spatial-memory tests long before they started gaining weight. "We were surprised at how fast it was," co-author Margaret Morris tells the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. "Our preliminary data also suggests that the damage is not reversed when the rats are switched back to a healthy diet, which is very concerning," she notes elsewhere. Researchers posit that short-term improvements in diet may help elderly people, for example, improve cognitive function and memory.
Well, that’s actually refreshing, because today’s news cycle (FOX, Wall Street Journal) reported research claiming to prove that vitamin intake had no impact on a wide variety of health measures—cancer, heart, etc. So it’s kinda nice to hear that total gluttony slows you down.
Another reason to exclude the purchase of junk food from food stamp purchases.
Like I care that rats can’t handle a healthy diet of sugar cookies. I like that feeling of diabetic stupor that drowns out daily functions.
Dude....wait....what?
I’d hate to be a lab rat. Such a pathetic life.
Irrelevant, those people are cognitive function free before consumption of junk food.
My son is pretty sensitive to artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, etc. I pack his snack so that he does not recieve one at preschool. The nuns work with us very we’ll regarding his diet. We took in a homemade, real food cookie cake for my son’s birthday and they didn’t have any meltdowns later on like they usually do on birthday celebration days. The nuns were impressed with the results.

Is also evidence that the alleged "effect" is a pile of bunk and/or not applicable to humans.
BTW, Margaret Morris, the word is "healthful", not healthy. Lay off the junk food.
Well, I guess this means we should tax the fast food industry even more, and then turn our trial lawyers loose on them.
Just admit it. Everything everyone likes is bad for them.
Concerning...... your incorrect usage is very worrisome. I blame the junk food, or were you stupid before?
So my strict diet of Nacho Cheese Doritos and Salami is going to make me stupid?
Yup!
Thanks nickcarraway. And meat! Eating meat makes you too smart to fall for this kind of BS!
Probably on U-Tube, am too full of pizza, ice cream, donuts and cookies to help you.
<sa.......
Duh...nuther burger, dude?
I don’t believe it. This is more likely a phony study pimping for the press.
One thing is for sure. You don’t want to feed your rats a bunch of junk food if you want to get any quality work out of them in the afternoon.
