Reportedly, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will soon be introducing a brand new computer programming language. This programming language, in turn, would be used to develop an operating system called “Midori” whose operations will not be similar to Windows in any way.
The new programming language is code-named “M#” as per reports and is an extension of C#. Midori represents a highly-dependable operating system in which the kernel, device drivers, and applications are all written in managed codes.
Managed code is a term coined by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to identify computer program source code that will execute only under the management of a Common Language Runtime virtual machine.
Midori is not compatible with the Windows apps that are already out on the market. However, it is likely that certain features of Midori could well be integrated into the next version of Windows, namely Windows 9.
Midori is reportedly designed to cater to the need for writing apps for cloud computing. However, Midori is not the only language to cater to cloud-computing. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) too created a new programming language called Golang (or Go) to develop apps for the cloud. Golang has proved to be an improved substitute for Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL)’s Java and Microsoft’s very own language .Net.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is aiming to gain market share in cloud computing through its Azure cloud service. In this regard, we believe that a dedicated cloud operating system will boost Microsoft’s competitive position against the likes of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN).
However, the focus now remains on the growth trajectory of Windows 8. The company is still persuading developers to write more apps for Windows 8, which has failed to impress due to lack of user-friendly nature and has nothing new to offer.
In such a scenario, we believe that it is very unlikely for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to launch a full-fledged non-Windows operating system anytime in the near future.

Even the mighty Linux has had to pay the Dane tax to Redmond. Otherwise you can’t put Linux up on those new fangled 64 bit AMD PCs.

As private people get excess CPU power, maybe they might consider signing up to be Part Of The Cloud. Kind of like what zombie nets do, except this time it’s voluntary and (hopefully) on the up and up.
We’d need some kind of legal protection, of course, in case your piece of cloud happened to be where some pervert put kiddie porn.
It’s worse that that. Knowing where your piece of cloud is “guaranteed” to be may held you sleep - but won’t help in a generalized sweep of the cloud data.
If the data is hosted locally - in at least a semi-secure manner - then anyone looking for the data has to seek out your computer/network.
Putting everything “out there” in the cloud makes it easier for data thieves.
Businesses who hold data from multiple Intellectual Property owners are not smart to put that data in the hands of others.

I am a long time user of XFCE on 2 different platforms. Love it. Love the simplicity and speed.
Have used Firefox since it began. Used several other open source browsers before that.
I would hate to give up the access to all the plug-ins.
But will look at it.
Thinking about reloading from scratch my Xubuntu install on this machine. And suggestions on the OS? Have looked at Mint, not sure on that.
These are useful concerns. I’m thinking of where the concept of cloud might go. Some kind of Internet tied rent-a-resource where you can choose just how tight or loose you want your security to be, with prices to match.
In other words - Rent a garage, where the building owner “promises” he won’t let anyone into your stuff.
I do not trust handing over all of my own and my clients’ data to a third party.
It is a liability nightmare.
If my computer is hacked, then someone has made the effort to (first) identify it and (second) infiltrate it.
If the cloud is hacked, someone may well have simply infiltrated it - unless someone on the inside of the cloud gave them access.
In any event, I am held equally liable. I’d rather trust my own decision making.
Such things as you sound like you are using as an example of ridicule actually DO exist today; we call them rental storage lockers.
I probably would not want to keep the inventory of a jewelry store in there, but not everybody’s needs rise to that level.
Yup, who ever holds the data owns the data. If that cloud company needs cash, guess who will want to sell your data.
I understand your point. However, businesses have data they need to keep secure. Big businesses use their own servers to store it, much like they use their own warehouses to hold and ship their product.
Small businesses, when confronted with the need to hold other business' data, face the risk of being sued if the data is breached. In a business like mine, I have multiple clients who would ALL sue if their data was breached. Therefore, I have to be very careful not to cross-infect, as well as to ensure that their data is held very closely - as secure as I can - in order to avoid liability.
Microsoft, if they pursue this course, will end up locking themselves out of the more stable (and less fickle) business computing market. Pursuit of an ever-moving target (being consumer computing preference) will make their operating system obsolete.

I’ve seen this before where some of Microsoft’s “possession” moves ended up engendering a backlash, and they eased up.
I think you sound like you’re well within the “seppuku” set. Rent-a-resource makes no sense for your kind of operation. And it might not even for the customers you know. But there could be a price and value point where some more prosaic operation like a grocery or building contractor would like the securable cloud approach. Liability issues if any would be met through insurance policies tied to the rentals — it isn’t rocket science here with IT being a mature industry now.

Why not work to optimize the current code and maybe reduce it’s memory footprint, maybe code a few things in assembly....
It’s a code name; it would get a new name when released to the public.
So I would have to pay X to counter Microsoft's BS in hosting everything in the ether...

Sorry - I hold my own gold in my own safe. In this case, the gold is IP. Why should I be forced to trust someone else to hold my gold for me? At my expense. And at my additional expense for the insurance.
What's really funny about that, is that not even microsoft can make changes from one version of their programs to the next painless. Companies spend millons to keep up wth the constantly changing target that is microsoft. Fortunately for microsoft, there are always MSCEs (Must Consult Someone Experienced) who are more than willing to push whatever line of virus ridden crap microsoft is pushing at the time.
Don’t let your own parochial situation blind you to profitable generalities. If all the would be inventors of the world thought like you did, making themselves the measure of all things, they wouldn’t be inventing nearly as much.
