Was Mysterious Attack on Calif Power Station a ‘Dress Rehearsal’ for Much Larger Assault on US grid?
The Blaze ^ | Dec. 28, 2013 | Dave Urbanski

Although the fact that the still-unsolved attack on a power station near San Jose occurred just a handful of hours after the Boston Marathon bombing — and apparently raised a few eyebrows initially — its ride in the public eye has been decidedly under the radar to date.

[snip]Here’s what went down: Around 1 a.m. on April 16, two manholes were entered and fiber cables cut around the PG&E Metcalf substation, which killed some local 911 services, landline service to the substation, and cell phone service in the area, a senior U.S. intelligence official told Foreign Policy.

More from Foreign Policy:

The intruder(s) then fired more than 100 rounds from what two officials described as a high-powered rifle at several transformers in the facility. Ten transformers were damaged in one area of the facility, and three transformer banks — or groups of transformers — were hit in another, according to a PG&E spokesman.

Cooling oil then leaked from a transformer bank, causing the transformers to overheat and shut down. State regulators urged customers in the area to conserve energy over the following days, but there was no long-term damage reported at the facility and there were no major power outages. There were no injuries reported.

Sounds like it was well planned.

Remember the articles a few years ago about how the power system was very vulnerable? Well the towelheadjihadis read the articles too.

Someone’s transformer business needed sales more than likely.

They knew that long before those articles came out. They leveraged sabotage of the power grid to an extreme degree in Iraq. There was many areas of Iraq that was without power for years even with the full US military guarding the systems with the help of drones and everything else.

The jihad activity and it’s destructive effect on the power grid in other countries is what prompted those articles if they ever turned to such methods in the US. If they could do that much damage to a grid being guarded by a full class military, then think of what they can do to a totally unprotected one here.

Union thuggery. This would be the second April in the past few years, when the contract is being negotiated, that this has happened.

In the book, he killed the lineman when he was up the pole so his body was hanging there when others arrived to see why he hadn’t checked in with them once he saw the problem.

The sniper would never be found since he could be over 100 yards away, plus the new arrivals wouldn’t know if the person who killed the lineman was still there.

This couldn’t be less important in their threat matrix.

They claimed they had video and pics .

I don’t recall seeing any follow up.

Why?

The “Whaaaa Whaaaa” crowd didn’t want to encourage copycats?

Pffft!!!

They had some other reason but, that sure wasn’t it and believe me; had they released information to the public it could have been solved.

This story is way past its expiration date.

LOL

NO. Its pretty easy to distinguish power from fibre and the are run in their own runs.

That is; fiber or communications cable(low voltage) and high power electric have their own paths when they are pulled to protect comms from EMF interference and and and to avoid co-mingling.

Very non NECA and wouldn’t happen in USA or Canada.

As for the information it’s fairly public.

And the cuts?

Been going on for long as I’ve been in telecom, 30 years, on that same path.

Many times it turns out to be an employee of one utility or another
