Do they serve quarts? YES THEY DO!
Sorry, my American friends, this beer fridge only opens by scanning for the Canadian government seal and the word 'Canada'. To ensure adequate supply, these guys are not at the games:

Smart move before meeting in an event with the opposing team, invite them over for some free beers.

Especially if the other team is used to American-style beer
(3% alcohol). Canadian beer is 5%.

Which means, of course, that the Canucks are a shoe-in for the Gold medal, eh?

Not generally true. Coors (when it was U.S. only) went all the way up to the Supreme Court so they could put the alcoholic content on the label. Budweiser for instance, is 5% even.

In Canada,
Molson Canadian is 5% alcohol. The last time I had a beer Stateside, more than 20 years ago, Molson products were 3%. I cannot imagine that they would serve near-beer
Canadian from that fridge.
I've heard some very raunchy stories about the carryings on in the Olympic Village after the Games. After the stress of at least four years of heavy training and competiting against the best, these young folks need to release that stress. Many will release it through a big party when they are finished. Where there is a will, there is a way. If the athletes want alcohol, they'll find it somewhere!

It’s been 25 years since I was last partying Stateside. At the time, in upper NYS, beer was only 3%, or at least any beer that I had. Is alcohol % governed by State law, or has the content increased over the years?

I suppose you’re excluding American Pale Ales?

are we sure the Russians arent the ones behind this? Nope. According to a recent Wall Street Journal story, the Sochi area is pretty much dry. No beer. Very little vodka. The Russians are afraid people will get drunk and run amuk like they did in Vancouver.

A number of southern states had 3.2% laws, mainly for sale to 'tweeners (18-21). According to http://wineandjurisprudence.org/the-legacy-of-3-2-beer/ Utah (Mormons) and Colorado (?!) still have laws about this.
However, in upstate NY at the time you describe, Genessee was the main "local" beer, and that was NOT weak. Others, like Utica Club and Ortleib's were. And of course, Canadian Beers were popular in the area at the time, and Rolling Rock (also not weak) and Stroh's were common.

I suppose youre excluding American Pale Ales? Alexander Keith brews a terrific IPA. Hard to get in the U.S. though.

It's all a plot by CSIS, to ensnare other countries' athletes. First, we put a
Tim Hortons on the base in Kandahar, at Fort Knox and at NS Norfolk, to get your military hooked on Tim's coffee. Now we've put a beer fridge in the Athletes' Village that offers only Molson
Canadian, to get other countries' athletes hooked on high-test beer.
Sneaky, unassuming Canadians!
