the money quote:“The situation is very unfortunate,” Faris said, reading from a statement at a news conference. “It does appear, at this time, that Deputy Knox’s actions were an appropriate response to what he reasonably believed to be an imminent threat to his life.”

This sounds like something from The Onion.

It is a horrible event that the idiots we pay to go around collecting taxes and cracking skulls shot a dude with a cane thinking it is a rifle.

The very scary part is the Officer gets institutional sanction. That should chill your blood.

Probably get a reprimand for not killing the citizen.

Much as I respect the job cops have to do(two of my cousins are cops) if they knew that every once and a while one of them is going to get blown away because some citizen seeing them drive by thought they were going to attack said citizen it might balance things out.

Chilling indeed-the only remedy that makes an impression anymore on these JBT’s and their enablers is to lawyer up and sue the respective city/county until their eyeballs fall out...

It seems that having police visit you should put you in fear for your life. I wonder if this defence would work for citizen “You”.

That’s not good enough.

This won’t stop until the Police Institutions change. Either that or when the Ukrainian style riots happen here the cops better not ask for my help.

I will watch them burn in their Police cars screaming for their mommy’s. I won’t lift a finger.

Cop fires several times at an old man leaning over his truck bed and hits him once. Good shooting there Barney.

Could have been worse. Old guy have been carrying a concealed colostomy.

We no longer have brave cops. Just a bunch of trigger-happy punks. Bravery takes guts to use your brain to overcome fear and evaluate the situation before resorting to violence. Especially against seniors with disabilities, kids, and tail-wagging dogs. Bravery is now old school and out of fashion among cops. Sad.

Many feel the same way.

Agreed, but legally depleting the city/county wallet bit by bit with justifiable lawsuit awards pisses off the taxpayers, undermines the corruption and limits how much the idiots can spend on intimidation-it is a start...

Several shots at a 70-year-old man from what must have been 15 feet away at most, and he hit him once.

That sounds like panic firing to me.

GUN!! pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop

"Deputy Knox’s actions were an appropriate response to what he reasonably believed to be an imminent threat to his life.”

Right. Because he's a cop and everyone he meets wants him dead. Every stick might be a gun. Every wallet might be a pistol.

Unless the old man was screaming, "I'm gonna shoot you, M-F-!" this guy was out of control. What the h- kind of training are these guys receiving?

Once again, the cops recuse themselves of any wrongdoing.

That cop had plenty of warning. He didn’t have to go off half cocked to avoid getting shot.

If you are trying to use this video as a reason or an example for cops to shoot first and ask questions later that is a big fail.

But cops will be getting more of that treatment as the public becomes fearful and trigger happy of cops. Open season for cops and citizens is a dangerous world.

They will sit on it for a while, but the cop will be found innocent of all wrongdoing.

The city is 100% responsible for all medical bills and expenses caused to the innocent man. In addition, the man is due a large settlement for his troubles. It should be in the tens of millions.

Obviously, none of it will be paid, and the country will sink deeper into fascism.

If this is SOP then every citizen must view all police as a mortal danger. And if that’s the case it’s your moral duty to avoid any interaction with police at all costs.
