Proper climate scientists with PhDs in the subject and everything say they have "debunked" a climate change "myth" which is commonly repeated on the internet.
The myth in question is the idea that global warming is causing an increase in the number of tropical cyclones/hurricanes. Certainly there's plenty of support among bloggers for that idea:
"Global warming and the future of storms ... hurricanes will become more frequent" - The Guardian, "Climate Consensus"
"The North Atlantic Ocean Basin has been in a more active period of tropical cyclones since 1995" - Climate Central
But it's not true, according to Professor Stefan Grab and postdoc researcher Jennifer Fitchett of Witwatersrand university in South Africa. The two scientists write:
By analysing three storm track records spanning periods of 66161 years, we establish that much of the perceived change in storm numbers can be attributed to improvements in storm detection methods over the past century.
The new study is published in the International Journal of Climatology. The "debunk" and "myth" quotes are from a Witwatersrand uni announcement highlighting that research and another paper by Fitchett, which suggests that winter frosts in South Africa are set to become more damaging. ®
I have long postulated that the primary reason there are more hurricanes today and 100 or more years ago, is that we have the means (aircraft/satellite imagery) to detect hurricanes that were never detected in the past.
Get ready for a load of climate change coming your way.. its getting dark and cloudy here.. we had 3/4 of an inch yesterday, most in a couple good downpours last night, need 4 inches for the pool to fill .. fingers crossed, we’re going 20 % mandatory water usage cut soon ,, rain baby pour.
The sandbags are filled and ready lamp is lit for many!
Feast or famine? seems to be the way it goes these days.
Nancy Pelosi’s vineyards will survive unless they flood out.. we can hope. :-}
I would add that as near as 75 years ago, scientists never even had the technology to determine the wind velocity of any alleged hurricane. And instead, just labled that really bad storm that hit florida as one.
Coincidentally, It's only been the past several decades that Hurricanse have been relabled as "tropical storms" and subsequently given names in order to personalize them.
Has anyone here noticed that this winter, for the first time, our own winter storms have been given names? That's part of the planned propaganda. Assign a name to personalize it then everyone will be able to associate with it...........
We do need it.
We get hit the hardest late tonight and tomorrow morning, looks like you will have all kinds of activity and watches out., high winds, heavy down pours.. Watch out for falling wind turbines.
50 years ago, toranados could pop up out in some remote area and no one noticed. Today, with Doppler radar covering the entire continent, we can spot every tornado the minute it forms.
That makes for more tornados. We see the ones we never saw before.
Out here in W. PA, I have a good 4 inches of ice on the top of my pool. I'm hoping for a thaw to drain some of it off before it breaks the damn thing down.
It would be nice if I could send you some ice, and you could send me some sunshine. ;~)
Thanks Ernest.
My computer tells me it is going to rain to beat the band, here in Santa Cruz County, beginning around midnight and lasting all the way to Saturday. I saw it on the internet so its gotta be true, right?

What difference uhhh..does it make?!?
We pulled in 3/4 of an inch yesterday , here’s to rainy all day FRiday.. and no slides.. long term forecast looks promising too..
on a series note, MoonBeam just filed papers for another term as Gub.
It would be his fourth should he win re-election.
and I didn’t see it on the internet either. ;-]
Peace and Out!
But does it still cause bellybutton lint?
To my amusement, actually. (North Dakotan)
Pretty soon they'll be naming every snowflake.
Have you seen this?

When modern life evolved over 500 million years ago, CO2 was more than 10 times higher than today, yet life flourished at this time, he added. Then an Ice Age occurred 450 million years ago when CO2 was 10 times higher than today.
