SHTF Lessons From Venezuela

So the people of all classes now find themselves in a situation in which electric power is no longer reliable, blackouts are common, and diseases that were eliminated are returning. Inflation can run up to 50% per month, rendering the Bolivar fiat currency nearly worthless. Since the government had forcefully expropriated (through the Venezuelan socialist version of eminent domain) huge tracts of productive domestic livestock and then given it "to the poor" who didn't know how to farm it, domestic food production crashed. Food was then imported, using dollars. Once inflation soared, the government clamped down on the ability to purchase dollars. This had repercussions throughout the economy. Nearly all medicines are imported, bought with dollars. Hospitals and clinics are now almost completely devoid of medicines. Patients with chronic diseases, such as diabetes or heart disease, cannot get their medicines. Cancer patients cannot receive treatment and are dying. Food supplies are dwindling and what food there is has become expensive. Shop shelves are bare, and long lines form whenever food becomes available.

The hospitals and clinics won’t have them either, and banks don’t generally stock medical supplies.

It’s a hard back book that came out in 2011. Title is, “Healing Spices”. “How to use 50 everyday and exotic spices to boost health and beat disease”.

This is not a hearsay book of anecdotal stories. The medical science is there to prove “this herb does this”.

I believe God put certain plants on this earth to keep us healthy, to cure disease. He just screwed up by not giving us the name of the plants and the directions on amounts to use. If you read in Revelation, the description of heaven, there is a tree of life in the middle of the river of life and each leaf of that tree cures a disease. I’ll find that scripture, too, tomorrow and post it.

Thanks. I’ll have to order it. I think that many of our diseases are actually due to deficient nutrition. We just haven’t learned enough about it to really know what we truly need to eat for a healthy life.

I have Cipro in the fridge, too.

What are you going to do if you suffer an Achilles tendon rupture and no orthopedist or ER is available? They quit prescribing ciprofloxin to my wife at 55, even though it was still working for sinus infections, because the incidence of tendon ruptures goes up so much with age.

Are you saying that Cipro may cause tendon ruptures?

I am allergic to penicillin and any of its relatives, so I am given Cipro by doctors and dentists.

the hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies will remain stocked and the banks will maintain stocks of other useful commodities. The banks, hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies will become battle grounds in any revolution, every one of them. Guaranteed.

Yes, especially in people over 60: “fluoroquinolone-associated Achilles tendon rupture”.

Cipro is probably not the best choice for an emergency kit once you get to my age or older (although I would certainly use it in a life and death situation).

Not according to this article. When the currency went kaput so did everything else. I’d rather know how to take care of myself without needing to rob others.

That’s Venezuela and this is America. If violent revolution ever comes to America again, you can bet your ass that the banks, pharmacies, clinics, and hospitals will become bloody battle grounds. It’s great that you want to know how to take care of yourself but that doesn’t change anything.

I am not necessarily talking about violent revolution. At any rate, if these places are going to be bloodbath locations, then I sure as hell want to be able to avoid them, and provide for myself and my family.

If you want to get your medicine by going to battle and assume that the hospitals are always going to be stocked with whatever you want - to each his own.

By the way, I never said that they wouldn’t become bloody battle grounds. I took issue with you saying just make a list and take the medicines from hospitals, clinics, and banks.

To me that’s not a plan, that’s a last resort.

That’s not my issue. I never said they wouldn’t. This all started with him telling me that I should just make a list and go take what I need from the hospitals, clinics, and banks.

That’s what I took issue with. To me stealing is a last resort. I think it is smarter to plan on a way to take care of me and mine without the necessity to visit a slaughter house if possible.

I also thinks it is not realistic to expect that all the hospitals, clinics and pharmacies will just automatically have everything in stock - no problem.

Heck, we have shortages of something as simple as flu vaccines. My issue is with lack of planning and planning to steal as a way of prepping. Stealing is a last resort, and failure of plan as far as I am concerned.

Oh, the gun grab is coming. They just haven't got their ducks in a row yet, so like obamacare they just keep postponing. When everything is ready, they will move. It may take days, weeks, months, or years, but there is one thing they won't do and that is give up.

obamacare has not been repealed, it is still in full effect or on schedule. Portions of is are not being enforced at this time due to the ineptness of the Government, but when the mechanization for dealing with the malefactors is ready, then they will begin full enforcement. The gun grabbers are following the same plan.

If you have meds that need refrigeration you also need electrical power. In a SHTF situation that may be dicey.

Most meds you will need cannot be purchased without a prescription anyway so you may have to resort to raiding a pharmacy or hospital.
