Cosmos came in fourth place for network during its 9 pm time slot. I was a big fan of the original but I heard this newer version really goes out of its way to insult people's beliefs. When I heard they went the the Catholic Church anti-science story and even got that story wrong I decided to not watch. Tyson is pretty well known for his militant atheism and the executive producer is in the same camp as Tyson.

That’s why I won’t watch it...as fascinated about space as I am...I will not give my time to someone who marginalizes my beliefs.

I would normally watch this sort of thing but after seeing an interview with the makers I changed my mind.

There are lots of science minded Christians and going out of their way to insult us should hurt.

Resurrection is not bad. Not sure how far they can stretch the story but not horrible.

We turned it off after six minutes. Dumbed-down, condescending, Common Core crap. The host is vile. Carl Sagan flopped out of his grave while it was being shown.

Tyson is not the great mind he thinks he is, and he is too condescending.

He would do better hosting a kids show

I understand the Catholic Church has been very pro-science. Didn’t a priest coin the “Big Bang”?

I watched last night with my son and debunked the parts of the show that were smarmy. Like the statement “Evolution is a FACT”

Yes, they parsed off any theory of Intelligent Design as something some people need to believe “to feel special”.

I also asked him to think about where those NatGeo graphic artist-scientists think the moon Titan got all that oil and fossil fuel - from what fossils?

I think Tyson is so visible for two reason:

1: Affirmative Action
2: He is director of the Hayden Planetarium in NYC so if you need a half articulate astronomer for TV he is handy

I never heard of Sagan until he did Cosmos.

The Christian Church created the University system. One area the Catholic and Protestant church have been very much in agreement on was the progress of institutionalized higher education. Virtually every Ivy League college started out as a Christian seminary.

It’s another version of Under the Dome.... A small town with dirty secrets.... Could have been a great concept but, no, they got to make it suck.

When the goofy Carl Sagan presented Cosmos we were seeing images we had never seen before. But now, after all these years, we’re seeing the same images. Sure, they’re farther away and have different shapes, but the entire universe seems to be made up of cold big rocks and flaming big rocks.

What they’re really looking for is a second planet that has life, because that would be another nail in the Creation narrative. They fawn over every instance of water that “may have been” present on some other empty rock because, for them, all life needs to exist is a little water and billions of years and viola!
