New Theory Suggests The Universe Shouldn't Even Exist

The universe shouldn't exist — at least according to a new theory.

Modeling of conditions soon after the Big Bang suggests the universe should have collapsed just microseconds after its explosive birth, the new study suggests.

"During the early universe, we expected cosmic inflation — this is a rapid expansion of the universe right after the Big Bang," said study co-author Robert Hogan, a doctoral candidate in physics at King's College in London. "This expansion causes lots of stuff to shake around, and if we shake it too much, we could go into this new energy space, which could cause the universe to collapse."

Physicists draw that conclusion from a model that accounts for the properties of the newly discovered Higgs boson particle, which is thought to explain how other particles get their mass; faint traces of gravitational waves formed at the universe's origin also inform the conclusion. Of course, there must be something missing from these calculations.

"We are here talking about it," Hogan told Live Science. "That means we have to extend our theories to explain why this didn't happen."

So if the universe shouldn't exist, why is it here?

"The generic expectation is that there must be some new physics that we haven't put in our theories yet, because we haven't been able to discover them," Hogan said.

“The universe shouldn’t exist — at least according to a new theory.”

Then neither should the theory.

You are what you is.
You ain’t what you not,
And that all there is.

I was thinking the same thing, except I'd put it this way:

Like Global Warming - so since the computer model trumps observable data, then we must conclude that we really do NOT exist, and that all of our perceptions of reality is simply a delusion created by whatever forms of matter and energy are now trapped in the event horizon of the super-massive black hole that formed after the Big Bang when our universe collapsed.

Oh well, I suppose this message I'm sending is also part of that delusion then!

The science is settled. The universe doesn’t exist.

Actually it doesn't and we've all been laughing at you for some time...

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

You are a fluke of the universe. You have no right to be here
Deteriorata. Deteriorata

Go placidly amid the noise and waste
And remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof
Avoid quiet and passive persons, unless you are in need of sleep
Rotate your tires
Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself
And heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys
Know what to kiss, and when
Consider that two wrongs never make a right, but that three do
Wherever possible, put people on hold
Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment
And despite the changing fortunes of time
There is always a big future in computer maintenance

You are a fluke of the universe
You have no right to be here
And whether you can hear it or not
The universe is laughing behind your back

Remember The Pueblo
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle, and mutilate
Know yourself
If you need help, call the FBI
Exercise caution in your daily affairs
Especially with those persons closest to you -
That lemon on your left, for instance
Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls
Would scarcely get your feet wet
Fall not in love therefore. It will stick to your face
Gracefully surrender the things of youth: birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan
And let not the sands of time get in your lunch
Hire people with hooks
For a good time, call 606-4311. Ask for Ken
Take heart in the bedeepening gloom
That your dog is finally getting enough cheese
And reflect that whatever fortune may be your lot
It could only be worse in Milwaukee

You are a fluke of the universe
You have no right to be here
And whether you can hear it or not
The universe is laughing behind your back

Therefore, make peace with your god
Whatever you perceive him to be - hairy thunderer, or cosmic muffin
With all its hopes, dreams, promises, and urban renewal
The world continues to deteriorate
Give up!

You are a fluke of the universe
You have no right to be here
And whether you can hear it or not
The universe is laughing behind your back

You are a fluke of the universe
You have no right to be here
And whether you can hear it or not
The universe is laughing behind your back

Scientists evidently haven’t found the “God particle” after all. Galatians 6:7 comes to mind.

Doug Adams.... My brother read my copies of his books and came out of the house and asked, “What was that guy taking when he wrote that?” LOL

They don’t know. They merely revise evolving speculations.

But a circling charged object would emit radiation and lose energy. Over time its orbit would get smaller and smaller. Eventually it would crash into the nucleus.

But electrons don't, and so we have quantum mechanics, i.e. have a set of mathematical equations that predict exactly what electrons will do, in some case exactly and in other cases probabilistically, but we still don't really know why the electron doesn't collapse into the nucleus.

The QM explanation is that electrons can only lose quantized amounts of energy, i.e. they can't just slowly run down. So the electron stays in orbit until something happens such that it can gain a quanta of energy and get thrown out of orbit, or into a higher orbit, or lose a quanta of energy and go into a lower orbit.

Of course in QM electrons don't necessarily exist at one point in space and so don't really orbit nuclei in the same way that planets orbit the sun.

So, yes we have the math to predict what will happen, but we still have no idea why what happens actually does.

Iif every time a scientist pondered a gap in our knowledge they merely filled it with G O D, we really wouldn’t get very far would we?

Reminds me of the old joke about the two French philosophy students arguing in an animated manner in a coffee shop not far from the Eiffel Tower. Finally, one says to the other:

"OK...yes...it does actually work. But: will it work in theory?"
