No matter what part of the world you examine, there will be parents and children there sharing bonds of love and respect. This photo in particular surfaced from rural Asia, warming the hearts of thousands online.

Although there isn’t much information online about this picture, you won’t need to know the full story to really feel the emotions behind it. According to Reddit and a Thai forum, this is a picture of a son with his poor farmer father after finally graduating from college. The juxtaposition of the son and father is shocking, but also touching.

Interesting, wonder if He is the one who shot me, dad not the kid. Life goes on no matter where were at.

Great picture. Thanks for posting it. Quite moving.

I remember — about 25 years or so ago — a sharecropper who raised his ten children by himself after his wife died.

He put five of the kids trough law school and the other five through medical school. They came back home and had a picture with him. This picture reminds me of that.

I wish I could remember the sharecropper’s name. I think he was in Mississippi.

"We used to have this kind of spirit in America. It made us a Great Nation

America has been a beacon of hope for the world. People gave everything they had and left oppression and despair to come her for freedom.

Now many are coming here looking for a life of dependency rather than hope.

Interesting, wonder if He is the one who shot me,

Unlikely but instead of being self righteous, why don't you ask if any of his family ever survived the NVA and their re-education camps?

Judging from the picture, it's apparent he's lived a life that not even you could come close to surviving.........

Not many shotguns here (Thailand) but they do have black powder muskets up country! And beautiful, young daughters - oh, yes!

A big difference between these two photos is, not to lessen the determination and sacrifice of the Thai’s father, but the young man would have had to be on a scholarship.

I think not so with the family depicted in Rockwell’s achingly beautiful painting. I never saw that painting before. I can’t stop looking at the father’s hands...

It is an awesome painting. It was hands like these that not only rocked the baby’s cradle but helped make America great. Wonder how many of us now could survive what people of this father’s generation went through.

I would love to have a copy of the painting. Wonder what the name is.

I think it’s called “Breaking Home Ties” by Norman Rockwell.
