Paul Singer: This threat is 'head-and-shoulders' above all others
CNBC ^ | 7/29/14 | Lawrence Delevingne

Posted on 07/29/2014 6:23:35 PM PDT by Kartographer

"(A natural EMP event) today would cause a massive disruption to the electric grid, possibly shutting it down entirely for months or longer, with unimaginable consequences," Singer wrote. "Only two years ago, the sun let loose with a Carrington-magnitude burst, but the position of the earth at the time prevented the burst from hitting it. The chances of additional events of such magnitude may be far greater than most people think." Carrington refers to a solar storm in 1859 that caused telegraph systems to fail around the world.

Singer warned that a man-made EMP attack would be even worse.

I don’t believe in numerology but there are plenty of warning signs of bad stuff to come and good stuff. In general machines are getting stronger and people are getting weaker. Safe to say the future won’t be anything like the present, or the past for that matter.

The Carrington effect MELTED the telegraph lines.

A natural EMP would not be world-wide, but the domino-effect from the effected area would be. All the cable lines, power lines, phone lines, would become conduits of this charge, with the possibilities of the iniital charge ramping up, with the increase of resistance in those lines. All motors would be de-gaussed to a negative state, or even reversed polarity. Anything electronic would be turned neutral, and therefore useless, and dormant. That would include all medical aids to the living, external and internal. All battery sources would become inert, with no chance of regeneration, whether installed in something, or on the store shelf.

So, no lights, no phones, no radios or tv’s, no power to keep food or to cook, no banking or atm’s.

(Gee, i wonder who the low intelligence crowd would blame for this, Bush?)

The movie was not about numerology. It was about an far advanced galactic civilization that knew what was going to happen to earth. The numbers were a code so they someone could figure it out and see earth’s demise.

Of course there is such a thing as EMP. Whether we could create one and direct it well enough to make it an effective weapon is not as certain but the phenomenon certainly exists.

The after the next year or so, likelihood will only diminish, at least for another 9-10 years.

If emp events natural or otherwise — can just be put off for another 40 years or so a large section of the population will be off the grid.

In only 6 years or so the solar people are saying their stuff will reach grid parity everywhere without government supports. After that, its reasonable to expect that solar uptake will increase many fold from its already high increase rate.

In 10-15 years or so 4th generation portable nuclear power plants will come on-steam and pretty much break the grid up into much smaller independent pieces.

I think a lot of capabilities that are dependent on satellites currently in a couple decades will return to earth. Anyhow, seems to me, I’ve seen articles on military research to mitigate the vulnerabilities of US satellites to Chinese attack by returning some of their capabilities to earth and simultaneously making them faster and more robust. Any development here would likely be further off

Well its true that part of the excitement of the 1950’s and 60’s was that space travel was right around the corner and too cheap to meter electric energy byo nuclear power would soon be a reality. (Less well known was the water world’s ambition to make very cheap water desalination to turn the deserts green.)

All that died in the 1970’s for many reasons. The great breakthrough actually happened from 1966-70 in nuclear research with lftr thorium reactors that promised to collapse the cost of electricity. But the prototype nuclear power plants were shelved because they weren’t dual use. The problems involved with going into space proved to be non trivial and funding for major ventures dried up after the 1973 OPEC oil strike began the long 40 year decapitalization of America. The US government actually understood that the big dams built during the 1930-60’s would not solve American water problems indefinitely. There was a robust US membrane research program that developed the first iterations of reverse osmosis membranes for water desalination. These programs were scaled back to nothing in the 1970’s and much of the benefit for these programs went overseas.

But in recent years the excitement has begun to return. The lftr thorium reactors were rediscovered. There’s now about three companies in the USA, and one in each of canada france, japan and china to develop these reactors. Likely the competition to be the first to prototype these reactors will turn very public in a year or two. The consequence of the fracking revolution is that the decapitalization of the USA which began in the 70’s is in the beginning years of a reversal. There’s real world consequences here. One of them is that tax revenues to the federal government are going up big time. In another five years the new oil money will make it seem like somebody just turned the lights on. That will release money for all kinds of expansive programs like space ventures. Currently the biggest expense for getting into space is 200 mile jump into low earth orbit. If you have seen prototype reusable rockets developed by Elon Musk’s company—these promise to reduce costs considerably. (For heaven sake I have a nephew working on ion engines for for space travel away from earth.) Finally on water there’s likely to be some big breakthroughs in the next couple year in either graphene or carbon nanotubes which will drop the price of membranes considerably. When the lftr thorium reactors are developed—together with the new membranes, they’ll make desalination cheap enough for agriculture and thereby turn the deserts green and double the size of the habitable earth.

In short, the worm is turning again! If we’re just talking about technology —all kinds of amazing things will break out.

This is not a big stretch. I could not imagine the technologies I now use routinely when I was in college preparing for the future. Neither could you.

If the technological change over the next 30 years is anything like the last 30...well you get the idea.

It wouldn’t even have to be real, just flip off the switch. I don’t think that would be advantageous to the Marxist/Muslim agenda. We need to have a thread that will put forth their best plan.

Modernize what was learned from all other Marxist revolutions and have at it. Haven’t read the manual myself but shouldn’t it be in there?
