Spirit Halloween has confirmed that they will be offering a Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costume this year at their pop-up stores across America. However, not everyone likes the idea of the costume noting that it is disrespectful to the real-life struggles faced by the transgender community. Despite concerns from transgender equality groups, the Halloween retailer says that they will be releasing the controversial costume to “celebrate” Caitlyn Jenner’s accomplishments as a “real life superhero.”
The Huffington Post reports that Spirit Halloween will be stocking their shelves with a new item this year that has many shaking their heads. The store has confirmed that they will be carrying a Caitlyn Jenner costume in their pop-up retail stores across the nation. Though the company’s PR department has confirmed the Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costume will hit the shelves for the 2015 Halloween season, the store has yet to disclose the details of the costume.
However, when discussing the reasoning behind the creation of the Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costume, the company notes that Caitlyn is a modern day superhero and they wanted to “celebrate” her with a costume.
“At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes. We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that.”
Despite the Halloween retailer’s positive words about Jenner, the Advocate notes that transgender equality activists say there is no “tasteful” way to celebrate Caitlyn.
“There’s no tasteful way to ‘celebrate’ Caitlyn Jenner or respect transgender people this way on the one night of the year when people use their most twisted imaginations to pretend to be villains and monsters.”
Hollywood Life reporter Jason Brow notes that the costume will likely turn Caitlyn into a “caricature.”
“I think their Caitlyn costume will likely turn her into a caricature, an exaggeration, when she’s a real person. Plus, Spirit also doesn’t sell costumes of other reality television personalities or any major celebrities.”
Though many are up-in-arms over the Caitlyn Jenner costume, others note that Halloween is full of offensive costumes and that the Caitlyn Jenner costume will likely be no different despite the company’s claim they are trying to “celebrate” the public figure.

Should be locked up in mental institution. I’m still stunned looking at this. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, Jenner was the epitome of the American male. It’s so bizarre.
