When news broke that John Chos Hikaru Sulu would be revealed in the upcoming Star Trek Beyond as gay in a tribute to original Sulu actor George Takei the revelation was met with an overwhelmingly positive response. Except, as it turns out, from Takei himself.
I think its really unfortunate, the veteran actor and gay icon who came out to much fanfare in 2005 tells The Hollywood Reporter.

The worst attempt at Sato characterization was in an episode where she and the others were stuck in decontamination and she told the story about being charged with insubordination for striking an officer. This was taken almost verbatim from Starbuck’s backstory on the (hated by me) Galactica reboot.
As for a black helmsman, I watched every episode and don’t even remember him.
Naah, Grace over Linda anyday. :-P
The original BG had the great old stars and best of all, Maren Jensen. Now she was beautiful. I tried watching the premiere of the “new” BG, but as soon as they got to the blonde bulldyke cigar-chomping Starbuck, I clicked the channel. Enough of that nonsense.
I thought your mom is a blonde, why would she want to look like Grace ? As for Hawaii’s high crime rate on the show, well, it is run by Communists.
Tuvok (Black Dude from Voyager) was on GH about a decade ago also playing a doctor. A lot of soaps don’t know what to do with or how to write for Black characters. Either they play a stereotype or they awkwardly try to pair them with White characters, though the males end up like “Mandingo.” The worst is “The Bold & The Beautiful” where they have a max negro-ness. If there ends up more than 3 Black characters, the other Blacks vanish without a trace. Call it the “Black Hole.”
I seriously WFTed when I heard Starbuck was gonna be a woman, that was the first sign that something was wrong, there were female character’s in the original (Like Jensen’s Athena, didn’t appear in the remake that I can recall), just adapt them or make new ones, but no. Starbuckette wasn’t a dyke though I found her personality to be repellent. None of the Han Solo-esque charm that Dirk Benedict brought to the role. Why couldn’t she have just been a new character with the nickname “PMS”?
They also changed 2 Black male characters. Colonel Tigh into a White guy and “Boomer” into Park!!! Not that I take exception to replacing a 35 year old dude with a hot chick but WTF.
“I thought your mom is a blonde, why would she want to look like Grace ? “
She likes her hair I think. Don’t ask me. ;d
I recall that, I think. There was also something about her getting busted running a card game at the academy, that didn’t seem to jive with her character at all, it seemed like “Ok let’s make up some bad girl nonsense for a back-story, yeah that sounds good”.
As for Mayweather, I haven’t seen every ep but I recall ONE where he was highlighted, he visited his family on the cargo ship he grew up on, it had low warp and took months on end to traverse it’s route. His dad or brother was pissed that Starfleet was taking away all the good merchant marine recruits. Vaguely interesting, never explored again.
In one of the final eps he hooked up with some chick. And in the Mirror Universe ep he was Archer’s bodyguard and betrayed him and got to appropriately wear a red-shirt when they put on the original series costumes, that’s about all I remember.
Oh, once he died (not really, it was the episode where they found the automated repair station, good episode) and they eulogized him, someone mentioned his love of playing practical jokes, which literally was never even hinted at before or again.
I don’t watch the news either. no cable. just check Drudge constantly ... figure anything breaking is on there.
I listen to George Norey Coast to Coast, while I am asleep.
This movie will only be watched by Millennials.
Bogarting that joint is highly illogical
bump
bogarting the joint must be the peg and jjabrams school of directing.
LOL!

I got less interested when the original cast died off. Not all of them, but with Scott and Spock gone, it is not the same.
That is funny. I did not realize there was a Star Trek movie coming up. Doesn’t sound well advertised. Same as the Independence Day sequel.
The Iraq allegory was this
At some point they found a habitable planet and a thin majority decided to settle there. After a year or so, the Cylons found them and occupied their colony.
Our heros started setting off bombs and such, which killed innocent human beings. Clearly the showrunners were trying to engender sympathy for GD terrorists.
That’s probably the thing that pissed me off the most.
In this version instead of the Cylons being alien in origin, humanity created them. You got the sense that they thought humans brought this on themselves for creating these sapient robots (more like the things from Blade Runner, it was hard to tell they weren’t human) and “enslaving” them. Never mind they were freed. So imagine if Black slaves were freed and left the US, then 50 years later they came and nuked America for revenge. BLM could probably justify it. Those that were too harsh toward the Cylons were portrayed as villains. They made it real black and white by having some dudes ‘rape’ a Cylon.
Another thing was that the Cylons had “a plan” or so the opening narration told us every episode. They didn’t have a plan, the writers eventually admitted they just put that in there cause it sounded cool. They made a TV movie called “The Plan” after the show ended, I haven’t seen it.
The ending was stupid, and there was a bizarre quasi-religious element that didn’t fit at all.
The hardcore fans annoyed me, a lot of them were not remotely interested in science fiction (which is fine and good but they seemed to revel in it) and hated on the original. They also worshiped Adama and the unqualified President (libtard Sec of Education, way down the line of succession) despite them running, in my opinion, an unjust and poorly managed military dictatorship, they later became lovers.
That be hard for Spock now since every seven years he go crazy he need Love LOL!
I’m glad I didn’t watch BsG. Frankly, I’ve forgotten what a show with an actual “Conservative” agenda looks like, so deep-fried in leftist propaganda for decades we’ve been subjected to in so-called “entertainment.”
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a show with a conservative agenda. Other than maybe “Dragnet”.
And “Dragnet” produced its last episode under Jack Webb 46 years ago.
bump!
